Would love information on Milford public schools. Are they good? And is the community of Milford safe? Thanks.

Milford schools are good. They perform at or near the state average on standardized tests. You can find information on all schools in the state at the website below. Jay

Students can get a good education in the Milford Schools. While I don't have kids myself, I have found most kids (and parents) here to be college oriented, and that the schools offer a wide variety of academics and activities.

The community of Milford is safe. There are a couple of areas that are a tad "gritty" but there is no where in town, I wouldn't go any hour of the day or night. Crime in Milford that you hear about seems to be centered around the route 1 shopping areas-- Typical property crime.

I'd recommend Milford. If you want slightly better schools and access to much of what Milford has, I'd take a peek at neighboring Orange which is part of the Amity School District.

Very safe. As mentioned the mall tends to inflate crime stats since it pulls in people from a large area. But the crime rate is still half the national average.

Schools are average to slightly above average when it comes to test scores. I've worked with Milford grads and some are the best coworkers I've had. Very driven and self sufficient. Neighbors and colleagues have been happy with their kids' education, although some were annoyed with the redistricting for younger kids a few years back.

Foran tends to perform better than Jonathan Law. It is in a generally more affluent part of town so that may have something to do with it. Education quality is likely very similar.

We moved to Milford from the Midwest a year ago. I have two kids, one at West Shore & the other in Elementary school. While the other side of Milford is rated higher for schools, we have been exceptionally pleased with the schools here. Class sizes are small, there are lots of great programs and support services. We also haven't had any of the crazy long supply lists. We were a little nervous at first but truly have been head over feet about the schools. I also cannot say enough positive about West Shore MS. The principal & educators that we have experienced thus far have been excellent & seem to actually be enthusiastic about their jobs.

Milford is extremely safe.
Schools are good, wouldn't call them great - but a lot of that IS due to the redistricting and losing some great educators because they redistricted a few times and pretty much screwed us all up. I grew up here and schools were much better when I was young. I know many people who got annoyed by all the redistricting and moved to the Amity district because it is better. But I also think education is a big part what you make of it.
I have 2 kids in elementary school now and we've lucked out with really great teachers for the most part, which makes a big difference. My daughter will be starting at West Shore next year (although we live about a mile from Harborside...) but I have heard great things about it and everyone seems happy with it.
There are plenty of extras available through the schools - my youngest gets speech treatment during the day and extra help in the "morning club" where she goes into school an hour early, all at no cost. My oldest is in the enrichment program, also no cost. The PTA sponsors tons of activities - magic shows, science shows, field trips and night time ones like family movie nights, Trunk or Treats, World Day, etc. There are after school activities like karate, Irish Step dancing, yoga, etc.
We aren't required to buy school supplies, but there is always a suggested list if you can donate to the classroom.
Overall I'm happy enough with our schools.

This is probably a good sign for the progress of Milford schools:

That is good. I do have to laugh though when I see a couple of high schools that are known to be very good rated lower than those that are questionable at best. Foran in Milford is NOT on of them though. Jay

Wow. How did Trumbull get just three notches about Stratford High? Central in Bridgeport ranked above Amity?

Hmmm...
