I would like to move to West Hartford for a better job and a change of scenery. I don't want the headache of a house being that I have two little ones. Even though I have two young ones 8 and 2, I don't want to live around a tribe of kids. Not that I don't love kids, just all the bs some of them do and how the parents get irate when you tell them. My kids are never allowed outside alone without an adult and is well behaved and respect people's property. I would love a townhouse or apartment between $1000 to $1400 mthly. Nothing close to Hartford, every thread I read about that place makes me cringe.

West Hartford is adjacent to Hartford- everything in WH is "close" to Hartford. If you mean you will not live anywhere near the Hartford city line, then you must be unaware that some desirable neighborhoods in Hartford and West Hartford straddle the city boundaries. How far from the Hartford city line do you need to be in order to deem the neighborhood safe? How many bedrooms do you need for that budget?

Keep in mind that there are not a lot of large apartment complexes in West Hartford. There are some two family homes and some small complexes here and there. There are even some condo complexes where owners rent out their unit. I am not sure what you will get for your budget there but it may be tough. Also because West Hartford schools are considered to be so good, it will be hard, if not impossible to find a place without other children. Sorry that is just the way it is. Jay

Have you ever been to West Hartford? If you had, you'd know that there aren't many large apartment complexes. Sounds like what you're looking for is a single floor in a two or three family house. It would be tough, but you probably could find what you're looking for in WH in a multifamily house not right on the border with Hartford at the very top of your price range or a bit more, but it won't include utilities. No LL will rent to you unless you already have a secure income in this area.
