If the money were there, and it can be made to be there, I’d be in favor of doing both. The NYC to Boston via Hartford for its express service and primarily for Amtrak and then the LI tunnel for more local and regional service.

They should just eliminate all gas taxes and tolls and implement a national infrastructure tax which could be more widely used to expand other modes of transportation. The logistics of the program could be worked out perhaps with a portion for the states and another portion for federal.

It’s pretty sad how little this county spends on infrastructure at a federal level.

So the Connecticut Legislature Transportation Committee approved moving forward with the three bills that begin the process of implementing tolls on Connecticut highways. The Bills all authorize CTDOT to beginning discussions with the Federal Highway Administration on how to proceed and to negotiate an agreement with them. Gone is the idea to create a transportation authority which would have added another layer of government to the state. Jay

A judge has ruled that Rhode Island's program that tolls only trucks is legal. Despite this ruling, Governor Lamont has indicated that he will proceed with tolling all vehicles using our roads. Jay

Is there going to be a dedicated revenue stream from this to mass transit? Like, will those proposed infill stations on the Hartford Line and elsewhere get filled in? Will SLE finally be able to run new electrified trains which have way better acceleration and save energy from regenerative braking and finally put some of their older diesel trains on the Hartford Line to ease the overcrowding? Will there be grade crossing eliminations for both safety and speed?

Have the final proposals been submitted in terms of where tolls would be placed and amounts?

Until you have all details seems silly to protest

There has not been a decision made on that. What is even sillier to me is that people are protesting something that has the potential to bring in as much as $300 million per year from drivers who currently pay nothing to use our roads. Why would we turn our backs on that kind of money? To put it in perspective, we could fully build (meaning using no Federal money) another Q Bridge type project with just four years of that revenue. Given that we have a number of desperately needed projects like that (I-84 in Hartford; the I-84/Route 8 interchange in Waterbury; I-95 from New Haven to New York) I think it is silly to ignore this.
