Do you agree with the list ? CT is at bottom for summer destinations

Every summer, thousands of Americans brave the weekend traffic to get away for a few days. Luckily, Connecticut residents tend to be fleeing the state because, according to a WalletHub study, Connecticut is the worst summer road trip destination in the United States.

WalletHub reports that "in 2014, domestic and international travelers collectively spent $644.9 billion on leisure travel. And they’re at it again this year: About 85 percent of Americans — up 13 percent since 2014 — are planning a summer vacation, and nearly 90 percent of them will be on the road."

  • 37th– Number of Attractions
  • 21st– Lowest Price of 3-Star Hotel
  • 45th– Average Gas Prices
  • 39th– Number of Nightlife Options per Capita
  • 9th– Vehicle Miles Traveled per Capita
  • 23rd– Car Thefts per Capita
  • 49th– Number of Scenic Byways
  • 2nd– Difference Between the Historical Average Temperature for July 1st – August 31st & Ideal Temperature (75°)
  • 11th– Driving Laws Rating
2015

The list is useless.

How can we be worst when in the nine categories listed we're in the upper half in four? Math.

Yet another terrible list, that brings together arbitrary statistics from various sources. I remember from one of the previous lists that the scenic byways counts are particularly random. Texas has none, for instance.

Connecticut at #50 sounds about right to me. What exactly does the state offer? wonderful beaches? national monuments? major league sport teams? iconic mountains & valleys? famous theme parks? world renowned sporting events? scenic highways?

Sorry, but America doesn't care about the Art Gallery in Yale or Mystic.

Too bad Connecticut is ranked 50th since it can sure use tourism revenue to offset the thousands of tax payers leaving the state.

I agree, another dumb list with questionable criteria. My take on these:

37th– Number of Attractions - We are a small state so of course we have lower numbers, duh!!!
21st– Lowest Price of 3-Star Hotel - We are in one of the most expensive parts of the country, what would you expect?
45th– Average Gas Prices -Hard to believe we are not No. 1 in this category and we don't have any tolls to pay, yet
39th– Number of Nightlife Options per Capita - This is a reasonable criteria and I am not surprised
9th– Vehicle Miles Traveled per Capita - This seems high and I would question it. I would also question its relevance to this rating. A more relevant criteria would be distance to population.
23rd– Car Thefts per Capita - Middle of the pack, not bad for an urbanized state
49th– Number of Scenic Byways - Again we are a small state, what would you expect?
2nd– Difference Between the Historical Average Temperature for July 1st – August 31st & Ideal Temperature (75°) - Not sure the relevance of this
11th– Driving Laws Rating - Not sure what this is based on but 11th is not bad I would think

JMHO, Jay

Exactly, and right on the money!

Every other state in New England has a stronger identity than CT does. VT and NH for its mountains and Maple Syrup, Maine for its mountains AND beaches, MA for boston, amazing beaches on CC and the Vineyard/ACK, and RI for its nice beachs and of course Block Island.

OK..........CT has some decent spots in the NW hills and along the SE coast, but it farrrrrr lags the other 5 states in New England.

There has to be a thread EVENTUALLY about what CT is best at. I'll probably be 75 before I see a positive article.

This list is totally silly. CT actually has at least 2 roads nationally recognized for beauty/scenic drives.

Merritt Parkway and RT 169

A quote on RT 169

"Not enough can be said about Route 169, a lazy, winding road through the rural northeastern corner of Connecticut. In fact, a 32-mile stretch of Route 169 is listed as a National Historic Byway. One magazine lists this stretch of asphalt as one of the top ten most beautiful roads in the United States"

Route 169, Connecticut: Scenic Drives of America Feature | Travel Guide of America

One issue with RT 169 is there really isn't anything there, so you won't be stopping at a mall for example.

I don't drive scenic byways to see a mall, I drive them to see the scenery and as few people as possible!
