I saw an episode of "Selling New York" which is about real estate and one women who was from the upper west side was talking about how "she wanted to go to the country" So her agent took her 30 miles away to Greenwich, CT By the way they were talking you'd think she traveled 3,000 miles.
That is sad and funny at the same time.

Hollywood doesn't help either and I found this article on TV Tropes. It talks about all 6 New England states, but really everything they said here is true even the CT parts.

Hollywood New England - TV Tropes

I love the words "Codfish Aristocracy" and am going to steal it. Wish I thought of that.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to find that journalists went out of their way to use hyperbole and exaggerate facts with one another to make something seem worse than it is.

Just an observation: I don't think negative attitudes against Connecticut stem from the loss of tax revenue. NYC is overcrowded enough as it is even among higher income earners. Every friend or colleague I know from NYC always holds the attitude about areas outside of the island. New Yorkers who have lived in NYC long enough and enjoy living in NYC hold those who choose to live elsewhere in contempt.

"Why would anyone want to live where Munchery doesn't deliver!"

"Why would anyone want to live in a place where you have to drive to brunch!"

"Why would anyone want to live in a place where I have to drive to hookup with a random hottie at the bar!"

"Why would anyone want to own a home and not have a doorman!"

"Wait... do people in Connecticut cut grass themselves!!!!!"

"Do people in Connecticut have to shovel snow? The Horror!"

Lol , now THAT's funny. Sooooo stereotypically LI/NYC. Anywhere outside the metro is wht most people would think of deep space out somewhere in another solar system. My LI family would be just like that crazy person on TV.

LI is an awful liberal sinkhole that has passed the point of no return a few decades ago now. Moving out of NY was the very first thing I did after graduating college. Unfortunately CT is quickly catching up with the circus I left. And once again, upon graduation, I will move. This time I've done my homework (thanks C-D).

Very true. However, as a former CT resident now in Florida for a long time, one thing that doesn't help is the portrayal of CT's governor, Malloy. I don't know if it's unfair, but he seems to be held up in the media as a symbol of what's wrong with Connecticut.

BTW, New York Magazine's website was hacked today, and the person claiming responsibility for the hack says they did it because they hate New York.

NY Magazine Website Taken Down By Hacker | Zero Hedge

"In an interview with the website Daily Dot, the hacker, also known as ThreatKing, said the attack was based on a hatred for New York, and was not related to the cover that features Mr. Cosby’s accusers.

“I have not even seen the cover, LOL,” he told the website over Skype on Monday."
