It is funny since over the years since the mall was built, they have acquired many of the adjacent residential properties in order to expand the mall. For decades there was a standing order that any of the property owners adjacent to the mall would get a generous cash offer it they wanted to sell. Eventually the mall acquired all of the properties in front of it on Main Street and a number of homes on the small streets adjacent to the mall property. Now I would guess they want to add residential to the site where those single family homes once stood. Jay

Wonder if it’s partly to convert existing space into housing like some malls have done. Stemming the decline of malls.

A longtime fixture on Main Street is closing and moving to Orange. Dragone Classic Motorcars, that has been in Bridgeport for more than 40 years will move saying the city is unfriendly to businesses. Too bad because I believe they were an important part of that section of Main Street. Jay

Are malls struggling ?

TRUMBULL — Owners of the Westfield Trumbull Mall want to add nearly 300 residences and a mix of other ventures to the campus apparently to help reposition itself for consumers’ changing shopping habits.

There is a big discussion about this on our Trumbull Facebook pages. I think Trumbull wants to limit the apartments to 1 and 2 bedrooms. I think that would be good. Frankly I can't see people with small children moving to apartments near the mall. I would think the apartments would be filled with many young adults going to school at Sacred Heart University. The buses go right to the University and it is only a short distance from the school....about 1-1/2 miles.

I am going to the zoning meeting on June 20th so I will give you an update.

Malls must reinvent themselves. The malls of old are dying.
Sportsplex in FFLD, Chelsea Piers in Stamford could be a possible type use

Agree. It’s unfortunate the weather in CT is terrible half the year, because Fashion Island in CA is one mall that’s booming.

Malls are dying because they're not offering anything you'd receive online. It's simply not worth to drive all the way to the store, and spend time trying to find something you'd like rather than use your keyboard and mouse...

That's smart. I could see a large section of the Milford or Trumbull malls becoming a large sports complex, especially if more anchors die out. Might be tough to justify with the sports complex in Shelton, but there seems to be a big demand for such spaces. Chelsea Piers in Stamford is a model for that type of development and does very well.

Cherry Street apartments in Bridgeport soon to hit the market as 29 apartments almost ready. The building was abandoned next to Metro North tracks as commuters zip through the city.

Is that whole block going to be developed?

After that, are there any abandoned eyesores left visible from 95?
