From Greenwich to Westport trees are being cut along side of the Merrit!

#1 the stumps aren't cut cleanly or low enough.
#2. The stumps are left there.
#3. Wood chips everywhere (not cleaned up).
#4. The trees were no where near interfering with the road or wires above.

I wanna know who's cutting these trees down! The trees look to be aged between 15-25yrs old.

I noticed some trees and brush being cut down today when I was on the Merritt, but I think the clearing is in the early stages. Considering there were a number of people killed last year due to falling limbs on the cars traveling on the Parkway, I do think the state needs to keep up with the tree trimming. I love trees along the Parkway, but I it can be dangerous.

Like I said, these cut trees are about 30-50 feet from the side of the road. There is no way the tree was in the way. There are very few limbs over the parkway but where the trees were cut, the limbs were not over the road.

What kind of trucks were they when you saw them? State Trucks? City? Regular garden truck?

Sounds about right for government work. Largely uneeded work being done just to "keep busy", and the work that is performed is done half assed.

Wait till these folks run the banks, car companies, media, and your healthcare. Oh, fun times!

I do wonder why the trees were cut being so far from the road. It does make you think the workers are just being "kept busy" with jobs that aren't crucial. Of course that's what happens in gvt in general.

No, it's from Exit 31 in Greenwich that this is being done! Maybe I missed the announcement? Just seems strange how they are being cut.

The state is clearing the unbrush along the highways to help the larger more mature trees grow and keep strong. Underbrush robs other vegitation from food and can be a cause of brush fires. Underbrush will die quicker in drought conditions and then be a fire hazard. They trim tree to prevent falling limbs which can be a hazard to people and property. The state has a program to clear underbrush and trim trees along its highways every few years as a safety precaution. It is not just to keep busy. Jay
