There's a big difference between point and shoot fixed lens cameras (like yours) and DSLR's (interchangeable lenses). If you want to get serious, DSLR is the only way.

If you just want to capture some quick photos, point and shoot is fine.
And here is the last picture I take with this one before I throw it into the ocean. Can't wait. LOL

This was a gust front that passed through during a storm that moved south over Bridgeport. This is facing NorthEast.

I was wondering -> Are you actually a full time undercover meteorologist? If not I feel the state has to reimburse you for the camera and hurricane/snow forecast service you have provided to the community.

From the CT Coast facing South East at 11:30pm. Very impressed with it already. I haven't seen the moon this close personally since having a telescope as a kid.

P.S - No Tripod. I was holding it.

The air quality was horrible today.

Here are a couple of pics I took in Stamford, so you can have an idea:

I don't know if all that smog was produced in the area or if much of it simply drifted from NY.

Well, that explains it. I hope it rains over there soon and, while its at it, for the rain to come here too! I'm glad I don't suffer from any nasal/breathing allergies, because I would had been in horrible shape right now.

A couple more pics:

The Stamford Lighthouse and a few visitors taking a break on the poles. Again, the smog/smoke has erased the always visible Long Island from the horizon.

Hello there little geese. Don't worry, I come in peace!

Terry Conners Rink, Stamford, CT. July 2011

1st shot is actually a goal, the puck is behind the goalie. Guests went ahead 3-2 at that point.

Shea Island in Norwalk and round beach.

This is looking east towards Chimmons, its in the left of the picture.

Couple trees.

This is on round beach, a small island in the harbor that disapears at high tide.
