Can anyone compare New London to another city; be it in Connecticut or another area. What is the crime rate? How does it compare to Waterbury?

Thanks,

Bryon

Waterbury, is a larger city then New London. 108,000, vs 26,000. Both cities have a crime rate significantly higher then the national average.

Waterbury lies along the Naugatuck River in western Connecticut, in northern New Haven county. New London is a coastal city, on Block Island sound, in southeastern CT, in New London county.

Waterbury's economy in the past was based on small manufactured goods and tools- it is still known as the 'Brass City'; today the city is trying to redefine and rebuild itself- though a history of rather corrupt and unscrupulous to notorious politicians has tarnished its image, making its rebirth tougher.

New London, has long had a tie to Maritime and military interests. From whaling, to submarines. The city was famous in the 18th century for its molasses trade.

New London seems like it has a thriving artist scene. There is a quirky funky streak evolving there...good place to do it: throngs of Fairfield COunty and NYC head there for their ferry ride to Block Island. Also a major train stop for those who have vacation houses out there.

Waterbury....is going the route of Utica.

New London also has three institutions of higher education - Connecticut College, The Coast Guard Academy, and Mitchell College. This contributes to the youthful, funky streak. Great events at Conn College are open to the community. You're also close to Mystic, Stonington, etc...wonderful waterside towns.
