Both Maine and Massachusetts are considering pulling out of the Eastern Time Zone and move to the Atlantic Time Zone. Both Rhode Island and New Hampshire would also consider this. Actually Rhode Island is committed to the move if Massachusetts does this. Massachusetts is also considering splitting the state around Palmer, Ma. Would Connecticut make the move also? Would they split the state? The move is based on the fact that summer gives us sunlight at 5 am and goes down at 8:30 pm. Would we be better off with a 6 am sunrise and 9:30 pm sunset like South Bend, Indiana at the extreme west point of the eastern time zone. During the winter the sun goes down around 4 pm and comes up at 7 am. The switch would give us sunlight until 5 pm and a sunrise at 8 am similar to many other locations in the country during the winter. As a Rhode Islander I am in favor of the move and business would adapt as they do in so many places in the country. What about your thoughts in Connecticut? BTW, I live on the RI/CT border.

I have never heard of this. What is your source? I see no good reason so I think the idea is a no go. Jay

I live for early morning sun in the summer. I'm out on my bike at 5am and can get a long ride in, be home and showered by 9 and STILL do client work before going to a noon job. I would hate a change like that.

Only if New York or NYC would do it. We have too large of a business sector dependent upon the markets in NYC. Would make no sense to be out of sync with them.

Huh never heard of the ATZ very interesting. What if say CT does ATZ they keep DST or did away with DST how in sync would CT be with States in ETZ? Maybe thinking too much. If say a ETZ was midnight. An ATZ was 1am. ATZ State does not participate in DST. The ETZ State does. So midnight be 1am in sync with the ATZ State when they spring forward. However, would be 2 hours behind when they fall back.

If the ATZ did participate in DST. Sunrise would be at 6 and sunset at 9 in the summer, interesting.

If the ATZ didn't participate in DST sunrise be at 5 and set at 8.

If they did away with DST kept ETZ sunrise in the summer be at 4 and set at 7.

I rather have an early sunrise though.

This would only make the slightest sense in the summer...with Maine. Put them on AST year round like Puerto Rico does now. Only problem is that it would isolate Maine from the rest of New England. This move would never work in Connecticut.
