I am looking into a job opportunity in Monroe. I would be commuting from New Britain. Is the rush hour West in the morning and East in the afternoon still a quagmire every day? Google says 45 minutes, but is is going to be more like an hour and 15 minutes?

Waterbury west will be tough as lanes go from 4 to 2 near the Austin Rd exit. It’s certainly doable though.

Another option would be RT 8 S, getting off in downtown Shelton and taking 110 up to Monroe. RT 8 can be a mess sometimes, though and if your job is in western Monroe along 25, it’s a haul to get to the other end of town.

Type it into Waze during the commute time to see what it would be. That’ll give you your best answer.

No -- speaking from experience, the construction has improved the commute through Waterbury substantially in both directions, and Google's current time estimates are accurate.

The construction on I-84 in Waterbury in finished. It is now three lanes in each direction all the way through the city. Traffic flow is greatly improved.

Woah. If that’s the case, and it doesn’t bottleneck westbound, I retract my statement.

Yeah, it's been a game changer. It's a 50-55 minute trip between exit 16 and downtown Hartford in the morning. The evening commute is a bit more of a wild card, but leaving before 4:30 means you are at home before 5:30.
