I was hesitant to post this because I am sure it will start a long and heated debate that could easily go off topic but I do feel this is very important. So with that in mind and a strong warning to stick to the topic and to be respectful of others, here is an article from the Courant on a Connecticut teen organizing a nationwide school walkout after the Parkland shooting. After 12/14, the children couldn’t speak for themselves. The high schoolers can. I think we’ll see some changes ahead, especially seeing that Trump isn’t completely dismissing additional restrictions like so many Republicans. And to that, I say good. It’s about damned time.

Well put. I hope this will be a catalyst for some changes that move us in the correct direction!

It's much more complex than these kids can comprehend. Case law has determined AR-15 to be a gun in common use, and the courts have determined that states can regulate common use weapons (rifles, shotguns, and handguns) but can't outlaw them. An AR is not an assault rifle. Assault weapons don't exist. It's an incorrect term used to stir up emotions and force a narrative. It appears to be working, people are buying into it, and the media loves makes money off of a senseless tradegy because division is profitable.

Ahh yes, the classification bull**** game. "It's too complicated to classify and it can't be consistent."

I think the solution is to put the gun experts to work who are constantly claiming this is a problem (as opposed to subterfuge designed so they can keep their military grade weapons) and let them come up with a classification system that can tell the difference between a hunting rifle and a semi that can kill 30 people a minute. Doesn't sound too hard. We classify things all the time.

If, after seeing those kids hunkering under desks and screaming with gunfire in the background, you are still making claims about your rights... you might be a sociopath.

Everyone has to budge a little here so we can start preventing these tragedies. I don't think people are going to stand for it much longer and I'm sure the fine scholars out there can find a classification system that works.

There’s really nothing complex about this issue - at all.

As long as schools and JCCs paint "kick me" signs on their behinds, it will happen. Not so many shootings at police stations and gun clubs.

Stupid hurts.

Maybe you want to live in a country where an elementary school is armed to the teeth... I'd prefer not to.

If only there was a more obvious option that has worked well everywhere else....

That, and didn’t cops, who are armed, experience the deadliest year of ambush style attacks against them in 2016?

But the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy wit- wait, nevermind.
