I'm currently residing in NY and make just under $2000. I'm not eligible for assistance but manage to keep a 2br for 1200 over myself and my son's head. I'm looking into moving to New Milford and can commute to work.

How realistic is it to find a 2br for 1200 or less, or should I go for cheaper 1br?

Any surprise bills, like a water bill? Is it difficult finding H/Hw included in rent?

I just registered my car and inspection in November. It's a 2008 and was a gift. What to expect with changing everything over and car tax? My car isn't in the best shape but it's safe and reliable. I can't afford a failed inspection or anything like that😂

I'm a direct support professional in a group home. I'd love to work first shift with a steady schedule and make at least 14.50 (getting mandated will be much harder to manage) Any suggestions for day hab or a group home with a good schedule?

If I'm surviving in NY would I survive in Ct?? I'd hate to move and discover the struggle is ten times worse... I don't expect a miracle, just want to find a quiet, peaceful and beautiful place to call home.

Thanks for any info 😎

I am sorry to hear of your struggles but can't see how moving far from your job would help. It would result in additional travel expenses and place a burden on your already fragile car. Instead I would recommend you move as close to your job as possible to minimize drive times and gas costs.

New Milford is beautiful and you will likely be able to find a cheap rental there but unless you have a good reason to move there like family/friends for support or a new job, I can't see how this would make sense. Good luck, Jay

I have to agree with Jay on this one; I think it's best to stay in NY. I moved to CT for a job that didn't pan out. I stayed because of the pros (great neighborhood, schools, kids love it here), but the cons (long commute, high childcare cost, no time with the kids, need a car to get everywhere) have outweighed the pros. I am in the prolonged process of prepping my house for sale and moving on. From one single mom to another, please think about it.

Auto inspections are not required in CT like NY but the towns do have personal poperty tax on autos. The older the vehicle the lower the assessment and cost, and it decreases each year the car ages.
Other than that, it doesn't appear as if any particular state is going to matter for your situation.

Unfortunately a move isn't optional and I'm struggling to find affordable rentals, this is a very small town. New Milford is only 40 minutes from my current home and 30 minutes to my job so it's not completely unreasonable (my commute right now is 15 minutes). I've also been looking for a better job, the healthcare field isn't too difficult to find work in. So wherever I go work will be about 30 minutes and I can choose cheap but terrible here in NY or cheap but nice in Ct... I'm not looking to not struggle, I only want to ensure it won't be more so

Based on the additional information I say go for it. New Milford is a nice town, but you can find some inexpensive rentals there. Car tax shouldn't be too bad (I have a 2009 car and paid about $150). New Milford has a hospital so there may be job opportunities there. Heat/hot water being included in the rent or not depends on the apartment. You'd have to check the listing. There are a lot of listings on Craigslist - maybe a place like this https://nwct.craigslist.org/apa/d/ne...936598994.html ?

New Milford is very cheap and safe, it sounds like a good option if the commute would really be 30 minutes.
