How deep do you go when you take these readings? Curious what depth is this stable for a time like this where the nights can be high 20's low 30s and days can be 50s-60s.

I take it at 4" deep. NWS typically does this too.

Surface down to 4" can fluctuate 5-10° or more in a day, especially when the ground is unfrozen and we go from warm/dry to cool/wet.

8" and deeper doesn't fluctuate as much

It looks like soil temps seem to follow (roughly) monthly mean temps. According to Regional Climate Center, most of Connecticut is in the 40 - 43 F range, so your readings are pretty close. There does look to be some 43 - 46 F soil temps starting to show up along the coast, and in the CT Valley. With the mean monthly temp of near 50 F in April, I would guess that the 46 - 49 F over southern New Jersey and Delaware will spread across CT and Long Island soon. On the other hand, soil temps still cool up north, only in the upper 30's in NH, VT, and Maine is still only near 30 F.

Loop past 4 hrs.

Gloom and Doom today.

Looks sunny in PA but looks like nasty storms in Ohio.
High winds in Kentucky.
Snowed last night in northern New England, snowing now in upper Midwest.
Lots of weather

Precip total this year so far... Over 12 inches in some spots! This includes snow melt which there wasn't much of, so most of this is from rain

FYI...….. I only had 2 times with a stretch of 3+ days in a row with no precip since mid February.

Had more stretches of no precip in February
