Waze/Google Maps will work better than any of our suggestions.

But I can say in CT, unless you're here on a Friday afternoon, should be smooth sailing. I agree with the Merritt to 91 reco. More pleasant drive than 95.

Just stick with 95. As long as you don't hit the cities around rush hour you will be good.

That's cool. I actually usually go directly I-95 from Virginia (where I currently live), mainly because I usually stop along the way in Philadelphia and also in Hillsborough NJ, but if I didn't make those stops, I'd likely take the route I recommended here.

Have you considered taking Amtrak? The Silver Star or Meteor gets you up the coast quickly, and you can relax (and maybe not have to spend money on a hotel). Connecting then to a regional and the Hartford Line should do it.

Amtrak is operating at 50% capacity right now, max, but from what I hear the trains aren't even that full.

My mom and dad lived in North Carolina for five years. The worst traffic is in and around Washingon DC in southern MD and northern VA. We would take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to by pass all that. If you are afraid of heights (or being closed in) it would not be good for you though. My husband would drive over this bridge and tunnel because I am afraid of both.

It's 2020, why should they?

It's funny how directions aren't ever really brought up anymore in life in general. It's just assumed now.
The last Mapquest page may have been printed out around 2012-2013. Somewhere around then give or take.

Rt. 58 from I-95 to the Hampton Roads can be slow and it really goes a lot out of the way. I honestly wouldn't take that route unless I was coming from or going to the Outer Banks of Virginia or North Carolina. Otherwise there is really no direct way to get back on I-95 after that. From the OP's standpoint I would highly recommend I-77 to I-81 over the coastal route.

Trying not to use and go on 95. I cant seem to find how to access i-81?

Thank you!
Any other way would add way more miles. US 1 is not a good idea to travel up aside 95 all the way.

If you can handle 95 a little, take it up to I-26 north to Columbia, SC. Pick up I-77 north, follow that to I-81.

The OP will need to self quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. He also must fill out a travel health form upon arrival. Please, unless your mother is deathly ill, stay in Florida.

I-95 N to I-64 in I think Richmond to I-81N to I-84E. I think the only toll is over the Hudson in NY. Drive brings you through the Shenendoah Valley

Waze is great....if you have unlimited data

Make sure you have the Pilot/Flying J app. You will earn a few drinks/treats buying gas and with the app you save a few cents per gallon that adds up during the trip. Most have impeccable rest rooms. That being said the Kenly95 truck stop in Kenly NC is a must stop on the way up or way back.

Good luck with your parent. We had a similar trip CT to FL a year ago.
