The more you know I guess.
There are no official designations that I'm aware. It's just an observation of what is more prevalent in the pizza space category and how the general public reacts to it.
You're right it's all based on where you live.
NYers in my Westchester office order this local White Plains pizza now and then for the office. This place Ernesto's. They all go berserk and dramatic over it and say NY has the best pizza in the world. This particular one is the same typical americanized as you can get in every corner of CT. They don't don't want to hear it though.

Well that's typical from New Yorkers. They think they have the pizza. The best city. The best everything. When they don't. Quantity =/= Quality.

I do think the State with the best pizza is Connecticut. Nothing will change my mind. I've eaten pizza all around CT and its been surprisingly good everywhere. The lows are higher than the lows in other states. The highs are higher than the highs in other states.

Yes, that has also been my view. Having lived in eleven states now and having tried pizza at the local level in most of them I have found it is difficult to get a bad pizza in CT. All are pretty good to excellent and the best are on par with the best places anywhere in the country.

BTW. Harry's Pizza in West Hartford. Apparently the owner used to work for Pepe's and then opened up his own shop in Farmington Ave. in West Hartford in the early 1990's if I recall correctly. Went there a couple of times after it opened up when I still lived about a mile away and it was the best pizza I've had outside of Pepe's.

Yeah I agree it was shockingly good! Even the pizza in Simsbury/Avon is all good. You wouldn't think that upscale suburban towns would have good pizza... but in CT they do!

FFC doesn’t have a ton of good pizza. Especially the stub. There’s Grigg in Greenwich. I do like Jordan’s for Greek. Guilty pleasure. Haven’t had in a decade.

I do think the Bridgeport area has the best pizza in FFC though. Several good spots in Bridgeport itself, Shelton, Stratford. Decent stuff in Fairfield. Friends moved from New Canaan to Fairfield and are much happier with the pizza nearby.

Danbury area has never had good pizza. They have Pepe’s, Good Old Days in Newtown. Eh, that’s about it. I find Stanziato’s overrated. Everything else is edible average NY style, or worse.

So Harry’s is more NHV style? The pics do look similar to the non coal oven NHV area spots like Mike’s and Ernie’s.

Try the Zuppardi’s fresh clam, no mootz if you haven’t. My favorite. Must be eaten there, doesn’t hold up well to takeout as the crispy crust is a big part of it.

Grigg, and also Magic Pie for the Stub, but yeah that's about it.
Man this guy knows his stuff.
I don't know any Bridgeport, Shelton, or Stratford, but Fairfield no good so far, basically like Stub.

I haven’t been to Griggs or Magic unfortunately. But people I trust love Grigg’s. Maybe someday.

Bridgeport I’d like to try Beverly and Brick Oven. Massimo’s has great Sicilian and Brewport ain’t too shabby.

In Fairfield Nauti is decent, and of course Sally’s/Pepe’s. I hear there’s a few other decent ones.

Addeo’s in Shelton is super good. Very thin, thinner than Sally’s, wood oven. Cool homey flea market atmosphere too. Friend of a friend owns it.

We also liked Parlor in Stratford. Actually wasn’t a huge fan of Salerno’s but it’s not bad.

I'm going to have to print this out for reference.

I didn't forget about Christos in Wallingford. Going April 29th. Even though it's a Greek name I'll have to have faith.

I can corroborate your people on Grigg.
I forgot about Pepe's for Fairfield, the people I know always order Nauti Dolphin - typcial americanized that's everywhere, and crappy Sammys and these other places like Steffanos - terrible. Then they always want to meet at Colony to watch games, I tell them the GAC instead, they say ok fine then. I like the GAC.
