Stamford: $55,000
Median Rent: $1760 (this seems very low)

New Haven: $25,800
Median Rent: $1180

Who has more money to spend? Young adults in New Haven or Stamford?
IKEA does not draw from a single city. It’s a regional pull, and IKEA smartly put one centrally in CT. They have stores in NYC area for that region.

Also, those stats don’t account for the amount of colleges from Fairfield to Hartford, putting that IKEA in the middle of a zone for young adults on a budget. The other big audience is families on a budget. IKEA is a discount store with good design at the end of the day.

I highly doubt they’d put a smaller one in Stamford.

That's very true. they can't go walmart and expand like crazy. A number of years ago I went to a home show in hartford and asked the Ikea rep there about expanding. they don't have plans to expand full size stores. I've heard great things on their benefits and treatment of employees. I could easily see one between Buffalo and Albany in NY but the market has changed. Wayfair is serious competition.

Here’s an article on the sale of Stamford Town Center to Safavieh. My guess is they will move the focus of the mall more towards home furnishings rather than clothing and fashion. The area could use more inthat department. I could see them brining in other furniture retailers, appliance stores, linens and kitchen goods, hardware, etc. Jay

Wow!

"Safavieh – which has operated a 10,000-square-foot retail showroom in Stamford at 230 Atlantic St. for over 30 years – expects to introduce a plan “to immediately stabilize and revitalize the property, while working on further reinvigorating their commitment to the city of Stamford and the existing retail tenant base,” according to a press release."

So they will keep it a mall and I would guess they will put their furniture store in the mall? Safavieh's headquarters is in Port Washington, NY. I wonder is with all that space they would move the headquarters to Stamford? That would be great for Stamford.

I just realized my living room rug is a Safavieh rug. The light bulb went off. Yes, Safavieh is huge. Now I get it.

Probably not. It's a family owned company with stores from Norwalk to New Jersey with stops in Westchester, NYC, andLong Island.

They bought the Klaff's location in Norwalk and turned it into a beautiful store.

It’s way too much square footage to fill with retail in this climate, but I could see them converting into multi use.

Agreed. Almost all massive malls will need to reduce the retail footprint. 1955 is NOT coming back. Online surging is not a fad, but a lasting change to the way Americans buy things.
