They originally recommended 30 minutes of speech per week, and then with the in person eval once COVID cases were down, said 1 hour per week for his IEP.
This is for a kid who has just begun putting two words together and is at the beginning of being verbal. I know that COVID has been crazy for those going to school, however, I felt that the amount of times the speech sessions were cancelled that it was getting ridiculous. There was never really a reason, just "I cannot make today's session and have to cancel," and they didn't offer make up times for the sessions he missed.
I am thankful he is going to go to a clinic to get him ABA and Speech, but when it comes time for him to go back to school I fear that the public school system might not be able to support him and his needs for him to succeed.
Does anyone know the best public schools for kids with special needs?
What are the best private schools for those with special needs?
I just want to have a list in case it turns out the school system is in fact unable to give my son what he needs to do well in school.
Just been feeling lost in this whole process since he was diagnosed and looking to make sure I am able to advocate for him.

My child has severe autism and gets 2x a week PT, OT, and Speech. Gets ABA, has a one to one, BCBA who sees him twice a week. He attends public school in CT. There are plenty of public schools that have good programs for special needs kids. You have to push and push and push.
What were his speech IEP goals? Did he the hour increase produce greater results? What is the justification for not increasing time? Those are the questions that need to be asked. There are advocates that can help.
Remind them that an IEP is a legal document and you can file complaints for now following it. They can’t just “cancel”. Especially if they are online sessions. You have due process rights. Contact your special education dept like yesterday and let them know your kiddo’s IEP is not being followed.
