New to CT and arriving at BDL around 6 pm on a Saturday and need to get down to the Submarine Base in New London/Groton area.

Just starting to research this, but any advice would really be appreciated. Is there a shuttle service from the Hartford airport to New London/ Groton area? Is there a bus or train that travels from Hartford airport to New London. Thinking that once in New London a short Uber ride could get to the base.

The train would be terribly inconvenient, as you would have to go south from Hartford to New Haven, switch trains, then go from New Haven to New London. However, it is likely the cheapest option. I am thinking one of the private shared airport shuttles would be your best bet. Connecticut Limo is the name of one that has been around forever, not sure of what other companies service BDL.

Thanks. Found an online “transportation service” on the BDL website and shuttle prices were around $300! Am still trying to figure it out. Didn’t realize things would be so problematic when I made reservations.
(In the future would flying into another airport be easier to take public transport straight to New London area?)

There are trains running from Providence to New London that might be more convenient. TF Green is not far from the train station-- About $20 with Uber

Agreed with using TF Green (PVD) as your main airport, that way you can take the train. The problem w/BDL to New London is that ideally you'd want to take a diagonal path through a less populated area...that is not where commuter trains have service lines! Hence the New Haven detour. PVD is as easy to fly in/out of as BDL. I just did a quick check and Uber looks to be <$100 out of BDL. Both Uber and Lyft service BDL, so that may be your best bet.

Uber is probably the best choice, unless you can rent a car at BDL and return in Groton/new London (probably enterprise) but then would need to Uber from there and the rental car would likely cost $100 anyways

Most people in southeastern Connecticut fly into TF Green Airport in Rhode Island. It has better ground connections to New London and Groton. You might consider changing airports to save you the hassle. Jay

Are you flying Southwest? If so, changing airports has no fee, other than the gap in fares. It will still likely cost less than $300 to change flights, if you use a different airline.

Otherwise, most economical way may be Ct Limo to the coast (New Haven), Shoreline East to New London.

I checked rentals, and they will cost well over $170, so if I were you, as others said too, I would change to the Rhode Island airport if possible.

What are the “better ground connnections” from the RI airport? BDL isn’t that much further (15-20 miles?) and an Uber is only $100. Not worth it if flight change has a fee or an extra connection, time of flight bad, etc
