At their peak, 3 and 4 would be past Stamford. Each far down from peak days. 1 also down vs its peak.

2 is at its peak.

Stamford has 2.5x the land area of New Haven also, so this is unsurprising.

Stamford population was 122,643 in 2010 now it is 135,470 I guess by 2030 it will be 148,000 or even 150,000 if trend stay the same. Waterbury population is getting close to Hartford.

Stamford growing another 15,000 wouldn’t necessarily be good for the city. Especially for traffic. It may plateau.

Interesting that New Haven grew so much more than predicted. Not surprised as they seem to be on the same track as Stamford was, just 5-10 years delayed. Tons of new housing construction.

I saw this yesterday about NYC. I would have never though NYC grew like this. I assumed they lost population, especially with a lot of the prognosticators on this site.

2020 Census shows NYC’s diverse population grew to unexpected 8.8M.

https://www.nydailynews.com/news/pol...YCs-population

When NYC grows in population it makes sense that towns and cities along Metro North and Fairfield County will grow too. My mom's family was from Brooklyn and moved to the Stamford area, NJ and Long Island. In the neighborhood where I grew up in Stamford I would say about 20% to 25% of the people moved there from NYC/Westchester by the time I was 18.

This is surprising especially since we see posters* (from other states) all the time on here that EVERYONE from the north is leaving and moving down south lol. I was starting to believe it so this below is good news.

"Leading a decade of rapid growth and increasing diversity in metro areas from coast to coast, the city (NYC) grew by a healthy 7%, or about 630,000 people, defying predictions about lackluster growth in the five boroughs..........Out of the nation’s 10 biggest cities, only a handful of Sun Belt burgs grew faster than Gotham in the past decade."

All of those people who moved to Fairfield County during Covid would have eventually made it here anyway eventually. Covid just made the decision faster for them.

**Especially my friend "Beach" from FL in the CT economic thread. She keeps insisting that CT will fall into the crapper because we are tied to NYC and they are doing do bad because everyone is leaving......SURPRISE lol.

Waterbury grew fr this first time in a very long time. It was stuck between 108-110k for like close to 20 ears or so. Good to see some growth there.

Hartford, NH and Bridgeport all topped out population wise around 1950:

Hartford-177K
New Haven- 164K
Bridgeport-158K

All three of these cities are more urban than Stamford in general, not as suburban.
In 1950 Stamford was at 74K.

Stamford has twice the land area as Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford. Thing is, a huge chunk of that is North Stamford, and there is ZERO new growth to occur up there past the merrit parkway. North Stamford residents have been fighting that battle and winning for some time now. If Stamford was to develop that land North of the Merrit Parkway, then it definately would pass 150K. There are cities smaller in land area than Stamford that have higher population. Stamford is narrow in heavily concentrated population areas and runs North-South, therefore traffic is terrible, since there not alot of places for the traffic to go.
