Airport is closed. If the US knew it was pulling out, why would they give visas and let Americans travel putting themselves in harm's way?

Out of curiosity, how would they stop Americans from traveling? What can the government do other than post travel warnings on the State Department and other official sites? Can the US prohibit its citizens from foreign travel as you seem to be asking? I don’t think they can.

Please stick to the topic of the OP which is Connecticut residents stuck in Afghanistan. If you wish to discuss the withdrawal beyond that, please go to the Current Events forum where I’m sure the topic is being discussed. JayCT, Moderator

Biden ceded checkpoints to the Taliban, and people in the nation have had their passports taken at checkpoints w/o being allowed through.

I’m not saying this to imply blame or anything, but why are so many CT residents still there in the first place? We knew we would be withdrawing troops, we already pushed the date out a little, why didn’t they get out sooner in the first place?

Most Americans there are contractors working for our government.

I hardly trust "Vietnam service" Blumenthal on any military related issue.

Sorry, I meant what could the US government do to prevent CT or other US citizens from traveling to Afghanistan.
