There really are safe areas in Waterbury though. The city has an outright horrible reputation. But the nicest area which I believe is the Country club/Post U side is as safe as any neighborhood in Middlebury.

I’ve got to agree with those that say Bristol would be your best option of the three the OP mentioned. Waterbury is a big city by Connecticut standards. It has a lot of big city problems like crime and drug usage. That’s not a place I’d want to raise children.

I know a few people that went through the schools in Bristol and they did well. It’s issues are no where near those of Waterbury or even Meriden. Jay

Anyone I ever knew growing up who lived in Waterbury went to private/catholic school.

Bristol really isn't a bad place at all imo.

Those have pretty much all closed down now, though.

Also where is his job?

The OP might not be aware of other towns he can afford that are safer and have better schools.

Some Catholic schools do still remain. ACES at Chase is a public school.

Chase Collegiate School, which was the private school, closed. Also in recent years, St. Margaret's School, St. Mary's School, St. Lucy's School, Sts. Peters & Paul School, Sacred Heart Middle School and Sacred Heart High School have all closed.

Will foster children be coming with you and enrolling in Waterbury Public Schools, or will you be fostering local children that may be already in the public schools? This makes a difference.

I think you should take a very close look at Naugatuck. It’s a solid middle class/working class community, overall fairly safe from violent crime, and is just about as affordable as Waterbury without the insane tax rates.

My Aunt was from Naugatuck and that is one of the towns I was thinking of when I made my last post about towns/cities the OP might not be aware of.

Naugatuck taxes are also insane. Though Waterbury is on a separate planet entirely. The only town/city with a higher mill rate is Hartford. I believe Naugatuck is in the top 10 in the state.
