Hey all,

So I have this serious issue. I’ll make a VERY long story short and to the point.

Five years ago we had a new roof installed. Lifetime warranty. It’s been leaking ever since it was installed. The company has come out multiple times over these five years to “fix” it to no avail. They’ve also blamed other things like the chimney and the siding, but those were also fixed and it still leaks. They seemingly refuse to take responsibility. They’re horrible at responding to emails, sometimes going MONTHS without responding.

I’m at the point where I feel like the only way to go is to take legal action.

What type of lawyer would I contact for this?

Would someone here recommend a lawyer for me to use?
I’m in Bristol, the house with the roof issue is in Torrington.

Thank you in advance for any help!!!!!

-David.

Did he pull a building permit? Do you know the name of the owner of the company? Start at the building dept in Torrington. Call the state department of consumer protection as well. There is a 6 yr statute of limitations on building in CT.
Don't engage an attorney yet. Get the state/ maybe city after him. If he does a lot of work still in Torrington maybe they can talk to him.... unofficially

Bring pics, as much info as you can. Contract, permits, cancelled checks etc... Emails since

Probably a business litigator is what you need. Also known as a Trial lawyer.

Contact the CT attorney general's office. They might be able to help you. If they can't help they can give you contacts who can.

I would argue you need to take a look at anything that was contractually obligated very carefully. I used to work at a work clothing company that technically had a lifetime warranty. Now the warranty really meant is at once the products warned you could probably return it for another one it did *not* mean that the clothes themselves lasted forever.

My parents hired a painter long ago and after two years it started to fade they contacted the guy about the lifetime warranty and he responded that he had cancer. Well the contract is with the company not the individual so how does that work?
