Under the circumstances, I wouldn't look further than a nice town in the vicinity of Hartford. There are enough good options around there that there's no reason to subject yourself to an arduous commute. Make like simple and easy. West Hartford, Glastonbury, Simsbury, Avon, etc. Keep it there. Under no circumstances would I be looking in Fairfield or Milford.

Agreed. I'd also do my best to rent, not buy, as its just a 3 year stint here, so why waste months searching for a home, getting a close done, selling again, rinse and repeat.

I'd save the work involved buying a home for when your corp determines a permanent location for you.

This is a stop on the road.

The problem I have observed with renting houses is that you get one extreme or another - either a substandard house, or a very high end "executive" house that is probably being paid for by the renter's company for a limited period stay.

It's hard to find a nice but normal house for rent in my experience, but maybe the market has changed.

OP might have better luck renting condos. If that is the decision, that might change the towns that are targeted.

Yep. Finding a decent rental seems impossible...

Guess I’m the only one that wouldn’t be phased by that drive a few times a week.

Middletown is definitely a good option I’m not seeing mentioned much. Inexpensive, quick commute, good location between Hartford and New Haven/shoreline, nice downtown.

I agree with Middletown.

I had a crappy commute for awhile (Shelton to Norwalk) and my other half had one too (Ridgefield to Stamford/sometimes NYC). It took a big toll. Ease of commute is top on the list of must-haves for me.

I hear ya. But 1-2 days a week isn’t much. Different strokes though.

Yeah, I would think that way as well. You know how to pick em'. Those are the CT flagships. You're in the Majors there, the Big Leagues. Anywhere from Greenwich to Fairfield, Milford then over to Guilford-Madison. Up to West Hartford. They have it all. They're all worth commutes. Can't go wrong.

I didn't realize the commute was a few times a week. If the OP only needs to make that commute 2 times a week I might put some of the shoreline towns in the mix if he really likes to be near the ocean.

As Bob Barker used to say "Bugtussle....come on down".
