Instacart operates as a delivery service for a variety of places. I've used them for quite some time. Now this means they won't even have a grocery store but some central place and then make deliveries from there. I don't know where in CT exactly but if they mention tri state I'd assume it would be in FFC somewhere. Would you get groceries from a place that doesn't have a physical location? I like having the option to pick up on location sometimes if I'm in the area....

I don’t think we would. We primarily shop at Highland Park Market here in Glastonbury and fill in on some items with trips to Stop & Shop for certain things. We like the meat at Highland which is freshly cut on site and we can get the amount we want. Stop & Shop stopped doing in store meat cutting and packaging. Their meats are prepackaged and are often are not the size or quantity we want. We usually do a weekly curbside order there and can’t see changing that. Jay

Maybe for somethings but definitely not for things like fruits, vegetables, meats and other fresh goods.

No way. A bit too dystopian for me.

Even Amazon balanced having real stores.

Where do you live, OP? I use Instacart, live in Milford, and Kroger does not list as an option.

Btw, you can only buy fruit or veggies in pre-packaged, consistent size formats on Instacart.

The article says that Kroger will be starting to serve New York, New Jersey and Connecticut with online orders but has no plans for stores. It’s not available yet. Jay

Likely doing 3PL through leasing space from another grocer. Its weird in that grocery margins are thin even w/o giving another chain a cut like that.

They're a concept called ghost kitchen. This might be the same for groceries but worth an actual major company. I think it depends though.

Lately I've started reading about Atlantis food delivery. It turns out that it's a chain of gas stations. Gas stations make the bulk of their money on extras not gas. So with telecommuting it means less customers and less purchases. They have their distribution set but it's gas station food...

There would have to be a really, really compelling reason for me to do it. Like if they had fantastic digital tools, reliable delivery, and could beat Amazon on price, sure. For non perishables and frozen foods only. I won’t give up buying my own fresh foods ever.
