I've heard there have been some good changes downtown but am currently living in NC, so I haven't seen the town recently. Is there worth moving for, for a couple in their mid-30s with a toddler, looking for nature, exercise, some shopping, restaurants/cafes, etc.?

If by "downtown" you mean along Route 6 and Main Street, then yes there are a number of new shopping centers. Check out Live Earth and use the Birdseye View to see how it looks today. Jay

Southbury is a desirable community with a very attractive downtown. There are many great restaurants and sidewalks downtown where I often see many SAHMs walking their strollers during the day. As for shopping, you have Gap, Kmart, Tablots, Anne Taylor, Borders, and many others. There is a Starbucks, European Shoppe (EXCELLENT bagels), Leos Cafe for great breakfast and lunch, Jordan's, Maggie McFlies, etc. The public schools (Region 15 shared with neighboring Middlebury) are excellent.

I think you will like Southbury if you are interested in a suburban town with a rural feel. It is close to Danbury, Waterbury and New Haven.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or post on the boards.
