Two totally different towns, don’t think you will find many others who have cross shopped them. I’ll add that WH is more progressive, while Ridgefield is more middle of the road, so if that concerns you, be aware.

Without kids, I would prefer WH, personally. Unless I was really desperate for quiet and space.

What an interesting post! As others have said, the two towns are quite different so it's curious that the home search is focusing on only those two towns. What else are you looking for? No kids, so schools don't matter. No commute, so traffic doesn't matter. What matters to you besides the actual house/taxes? Are you looking for local fine dining and night life? (WeHa) Larger yard? (Ridgefield) Access to NYC? (Ridgefield) Socio-economic diversity? (WeHa)

If you could clue us in on what sort of lifestyle you want, we can give more insight.

Wait a second, what? 850K in West Hartford? That doesn't sound right unless you're looking for a huge house or something? Or did you mean for Ridgefield? That seems more like what I'd expect in Ridgefield, but still I feel 850K is a little high for Ridgefield as well but you'd be paying that for a big house.

875k isn’t high for Ridgefield. It’s right about what the median is.

~900k should get the OP a smaller but nice colonial in Ridgefield. In West Hartford it will get much more square footage.

Well I'd say it depends on the size of house, but I think the median for Ridgefield is more like 785K. Still not that high especially if OP is looking for a bigger house.

If you Google it, it says 901 at the top. That's sounds about right in this market

Exactly. As the example I posted shows, that price in Ridgefield gets you a nice but not spectacular 2,400 square foot colonial on an acre lot a mile from town. In WestHartford it gets you this 5,200 square foot stunner in one of ten very best neighborhoods in town. Jay

Love the exterior. Crosses over the beds means seniors live there. The interior needs a major cosmetic makover. That has West Elm written all over it if you do it right. I'd design it all around that great pool table in the family room.

You get a lot of house anywhere in CT. It's the taxes that eventually drive seniors away.

Agree, the inside could be spectacular. Put a few hundred thousand into it, stage it right and you have a $2m home.

I also agree you get a lot of house for your money in CT compared to major US metropolitan areas. That West Hartford home in Southwest Ranches or Wellington, FL, on that kind of property, would command 4x what is being asked in WH. I learned - and only after I left - that CT is strikingly affordable for what it offers, and that’s part of its appeal. Now taxes are another story.
