Yes, it is the main influence Yale has outside of New Haven area. Even then there are many other options in FFC and Hartford area, I wouldn’t say the Yale New Haven hospital is the dominant one besides maybe certain fields. There are also a lot of top hospitals in nearby states, so Yale one never feels like a must go to hospital.

What are you talking about?

You do realize that many of our country’s leaders are Yale graduates? These are some of the most important people in our country including President George W. Bush; President Bill Clinton; President George H.W. Bush; Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; President Gerald Ford; Vice President Dick Cheney; Florida Governor Ron DeSantis; former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson; journalist Anderson Cooper; Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas; Senator John Kerry; Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh; journalist Chris Cuomo… The list goes on and on.

So, pay to play?

The world would be a better place if this list of people not only didn't attend Yale, but didn't exist, period. Maybe Yale is the place to nip high end treason, evil, and corruption in the bud! Thanks for the tip.

Right, other than a medical facility in FCounty having a Yale-New Haven affiliation there is no culture or obsession over Yale there. People are way too self absorbed to care.
If you drive around Westport and Weston now you see tons and tons of houses with flags or front yard signs of a certain star, you’ll know Yale isn’t very popular there.
JayConn left out Jodi Foster. The list of grads is impressive though you can’t deny it.

This is getting off topic but if you look at the list in the link below you see a surprising number of conservatives. Certainly more than liberals.

You do realize that some of the greatest contributions to medical science came out of Yale. Most notable are the first X-ray in 1896; the first successful use of penicillin in the United States in 1942; and the first use of chemotherapy as a cancer treatment. Other contributions include the first artificial heart pump, the first insulin infusion pump for diabetes, and DNA sequencing technology. The list goes on and on.

This is an interesting comment. One key example: The Yale Club in NYC is right across the street from Grand Central on prime real estate (in a large noticeable building it owns btw for over 100 years). That is definitely an influential networking spot in Manhattan - not too bad for a school that isn't based in NYC, the country's premier metropolis.

In FFC, there is definitely Yale influence as many alums live here, including Governor Lamont when he's not in Hartford on official business.

Yale has historically been about quiet money and noblesse oblige. The university certainly has a global presence too with investments and real estate all over the world.

Writing this as a Yalie btw - not too sure how many of us are on this thread.

But there are just as many graduates from other universities living in CT as Yale. My wife is Harvard alumni and the alumni network/influence is just as strong as Yale in the FFC area. And if you are looking at Hartford area, UConn is more dominant there. The point is not that Yale is not important, of course it is. But I don’t think Yale plays an overly important role in CT outside of New Haven area. Certainly not to the level of DC to Maryland.

I don’t get why are those information relevant. Of course Yale plays an important role in the country, but we are discussing the influence of Yale in CT outside of New Haven area. And outside of the hospital, I think its influence is just as much as other top universities and in Hartford area significantly behind UConn. Outside of New Haven area, Yale does not play an overly important role to CT as what DC is to Maryland as some posters suggested.

Actually, Yale is a very good hospital even by national standards. There are over 6000 hospitals in the US so I would say if you are ranked in the top 100 in any specialty it must be good.....right?

Yale #1 in CT

The following ranking are for THE ENTIRE COUNTRY for Yale New Haven Hospital.

#50 for Cancer
#45 Diabetes and Endocrinology
#38 Ears Nose & Throat
#42 Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
#26 Geriatrics
#4 Obstetrics & Gynecology
#25 Pulmonology & Lung Surgery
#41 Urology

Yale is also ranked in many pediatric specialties that you can see on this link.

Yale is no slouch. I understand what you are saying about NYC hospitals. They are some of the best in the world. But for the US Yale New Haven Hospital is up there.
