Trumbull is near a lot of stuff since it’s closer to coast. Lots of entertainment (New Haven and Bridgeport), dining, nightlife, etc is not far.

Monroe is also a nice town. It's 10 minutes further from everything than Trumbull is, but has its share of restaurants, shopping and activity. Both Trumbull High School and Masuk High School in Monroe are good high schools.

My office is in Trumbull and I lived here in elementary school. I'd highly recommend taking a close look at both towns.

Plus it is near regular trains into New York City which college kids should likely love.

Trumbull is a great town. The schools are excellent and there’s a lot of great shopping and dinning options. It is certainly less sleepy than the other towns mentioned. Your budget though will only get you a modest home there. In Monroe you would get a slightly nicer home. It’s up to you if it’s worth the extra 10 minutes drive from the coast. Good luck.

If you’re looking at Monroe and Trumbull then just go with Brookfield and Bethel. Same thing but closer to Putnam and maybe a tad cheaper.

Best

Be warned the B in Brookfield stands for Boring

If you are a homebody type, it is a very nice town to live in and go to kids’ sports games and Costco runs occasionally. Nothing wrong with that. But I would never wish it upon a newly single mom.

Yeah, I am hoping for more options for socialization and a little more excitement than a Costco run.

Thank you, everyone for your replies! You have given me a lot to think about.

I just don’t see impactful differences between CT’s more affordable minivan soccer mom towns.

Yeah and that’s the thing. I’m not a soccer mom, nor do I drive a mini van, so I can’t really relate. My kids are really past that point.

I am a Soccer Mom (TM) - not with a minivan - but to me, the difference points across the various towns suggested:

- How dense the neighborhoods are
- How separate the residential areas are from commercial areas
- Access to public transportation
- Things to do in town versus having to go to another town
- Town demographics
