Tell me I'm wrong, I don't care - I just know that lifestyle and "scene" will not come within miles of my son and/or household.
I don't know if I would use those adjectives, but I definitely believe that there are "those" with divergent values. This is evidenced weekly on the local news where stories are reported of a 17-year-old mother leaving her infant with her "new" boyfriend so she can go to work. When she returns, the child either isn't acting right or is dead.

Unfortunately, it's not confined to the cities since this trash often has to enter into suburbs or use the state's roadways to get to work. (No jokes needed.)

It is a cancer...

Let's not forget about the other horrific Hartford story regarding former Deputy Mayor Nick Carbone who was mugged on Tuesday. Horrific in the sense that this man spent his life to improve Hartford...for what?

Nothing short of sickening and disgusting. I would of called 911 on my cell phone immediately. This is the top story right now on the newspaper's website where I live which is Greenville, South Carolina. This story is spreading like wildfire and will make people think bad of Hartford whether it actually is or not.

This is very sad...I'm glad I don't live there anymore, but then again, it could happen anywhere. Some people have lost their humanity.

A few months ago in one of the public Stamford schools a 14 year old girl was badly beaten by some kids. There were several other kids who just stood around watching, no one intervened or bothered to get help. The girl was hospitalized with bruised kidneys, etc. I'm not sure if this is an attitude that our residents are learning in childhood, or if it's an urban thing; I've certainly never heard of anything like that in our town's schools. But in my experiences of living in cities I've found cities to be more violent than the suburbs in general, from the elementary schools on up. But I really don't think Connecticut cities are worse than other cities around the nation.

Okay folks...before this turns into a "bash Hartford thread" let have a dose of reality.

1. This happened in a "bad" section of town. Most cities have "bad" sections of town.

2. The sad, disgusting mindset that has a large foothold in said areas is common throughout the nation - not just Hartford. (LA King Riots - trucker pulled out of his truck and beaten unconscience anyone?)

3. Let it be known that *4* calls to 911 were made in the first 60 seconds.

4. This is no more a reflection on the population of our area as a whole any more than it is on our nation as a whole. Wake up folks, this isn't a Hartford problem...and don't say "it wouldn't happen in my city" because things like this HAVE and WILL continue happen nationwide unless we change our ways as a society.

If you don't think there is an underlying problem of this kind of mindset in this nation you are blind. WAKE UP AMERICA. Stop letting your kids mow down combatants for hours on end in some bloody video game...stop letting them listen to music that poisens the soul with hatred and disrespect...stop letting them watch movies that are nothing more than reenacted torture scenes and on and on.

Perhaps Hartford will be used as part of a wake up call. Good.

True that. The end of the world is near in my opinion.

I have just watched the tape on this on this morning's Good Morning America on ABC. The reporter said with the people they interviewed they all said they will not get involved with calling the law-PERIOD. That type of thinking is completely insane. For the people who were interviewed and replied like that, they better hope to hell the same thing does not happen to them!

I moved from CT in 2003 to Orlando. I've lived in 3 different towns in Central Florida and the Bay area. Hit and runs happen here often. However, I have never heard of somthing like this. A couple of months ago in a section of Orlando called Pine Hills (aka crime hills), there was a hit and run on the news and even being in a Ghetto people who witnessed what happened still called the cops AND offered assistance until help arrived. And these people were interviewed on the news and looked like the typical person you see on the TV series "Lock Up". They still stopped to help though.

I like both Connecticut and Florida. They both have their pluses and minuses. My opinion though is that this is a representation of one of Connecticut's minuses, showcasing the reputation of the narcissistic and vain mentatlity of a lot of the residents.
