Connecticut has a decent population of Hispanics, about 250,000. But the majority of the hispanics here are located in the larger cities. Our big cities are diverse like most cities with more than 100,000 people in New England; no real reason to be alarmed. The majority of the Hispanics here are Puerto Rican and Dominican.

Hartford's Puerto Rican population is the second largest by percentage (around 30%). I believe Holyoke, Mass., is first.

Really??? I would have thought that the first is in The Bronx, N.Y. AKA "El condado de la salsa".

Well the citizens of Hartford helped make this downward trajectory possible by voting for an idiot. The mayor is a former gang member, he cons people into believing crime is going down even though there are stats that clearly contradict this. In terms of fighting crime, he and his lackeys are, as Ah-nold would say, a bunch of gurly men. I read the papers and read the crime reports in Hartford, and I think to myself, "Where's Dirty Harry when you need him?"

The city has also become a sancutary city for illegals - meaning the cops legally cannot ask a detainee if they are an illegal immigrant. Yes, Hartford has a high Latino population, but that in of itself doesn't make it bad. The fact that it draws constant streams of poor people, whose children don't value education, are the real culprit. When entitlement attitudes end (which is unlikely in the near future), and parents acknowledge the wisdom Bill Cosby over, say, Kanye West, maybe things will improve. I do feel for the working poor, those who abide by the law and who have no choice but to live in these destitute areas. To those who are, stick by those kids.

One of my former coworkers is Puerto Rican and she is from Hartford. From the stories she has told me I gather it's pretty rough there.
