Hi all, my husband and I are thinking about moving to NC from CT. Now this is not another NC or CT post. I really don't want to move, but in order to afford a home in our price range the size we want it seems like that is the best thing to do. We currently live in the north end of Bridgeport a nice neighborhood a dead end street. Cons its in front of an active cemetery (a few houses in the same area sold for $400k) and a half duplex. We are looking form something about $250k in an area with good school and that isn't a soap box. Anyone have any idea where we can look. We have tried Hamden the house that we can afford the neighborhood and horrible same go for Cheshire. Any input would be great

Where do you work or have to commute to? The most bang for your buck is going to be in eastern CT and the Hartford area (east of the CT River). You could easily find nice homes in good neighborhoods in Manchester, Vernon, Marlborough, Hebron, Coventry, etc. but if you need to commute to the shoreline it would be a nightmare.

$250K is not going to get you a lot within a reasonable commute to Norwalk. Try Milford or up in the Naugatuck Valley (Derby, Ansonia, Seymour). Good luck. Jay

Sorry...I didn't see the places of employment.

That's true. The commute would be long. It's another 30 minutes north of the Ansonia/Derby area.

Although, I don't know about living in Ansonia/Derby either.

How about Middletown or Cromwell? The drive on 91 to Cross isn't too bad.

Middletown/Cromwell is over an hour to Norwalk even on a good day. Jay

I live in Milford and my wife drives into wilton/westport. Only 25-30 miles. On average expect 1 hour commute on the Merrit. With no traffic its about 30mins. I would add another 15mins for Norwalk.

There are a few affordable sections in Norwalk but they are the shaddy areas which are slowly being turned around. I would look into this first.
