Stay away from the Fairfield U area because of the LOUD parties and drunk drivers.

The Fairfield University area is one of the nicer and more desirable parts of Fairfield. Homes in the university area are sought-after because of their character and convenient location. The campus is pretty insulated from the outside and well shielded from adjacent neighborhoods and the campus security keeps things to a minimum. Thye don't fool around. I know people that live nearby and have never had an issue. In fact I know people that look for homes near campus to enjoy some of the amenities that the campus has to offer. It is very lovely to walk around there. Jay

I should add that you may mean the problems that have existed for years along Fairfield Beach with university students living in beach houses there. Many people that own beach homes on Fairfield Beach rent to university students during the winter in order to pay for some of the expenses of having a beach home. In the past 25 years though, the beach neighborhood has become the home to more year-round residents and many have rebuilt these beach homes into expensive Malibu type residences. They have had issues with student who have parties and have tried to have the students evicted. This has gone back and forth since students have been renting home on Fairfield Beach for nearly 60 years and many old-time Fairfield families can not afford to maintain these homes without the extra income.

I tend to side with the students since if they are forced out, many of these homes will be sold off and rebuilt into more expensive Malibu style homes. JMHO, Jay

In recent history Fairfield U has had two deaths resulting from heroin ods, tons of burglaries, fights, vandalism, arson, DUI, driving w/out license, etc....

I don't think that would be "lovely"

I don't know where you live, but you obviously do not know or live in Fairfield. The picture you paint is inaccurate.

Fairfield is a beautiful, upscale community.

Fairfield University is a highly regarded university. Fairfield Prep, a highly regarded Jesuit prep school is located on the campus as well.

All anyone has to do is drive around Fairfield and see what a great town it is. Fairfield is a great place to live.

Tons of Burglaries? Arson? Vandalism? Fights? Really???

A close family member lives near the university and I have not heard any of this from them or other family/friends in the area. Sorry but you are definitely wrong here. Jay

Are there any suggestions on rentals? We don't want to purchase a house in one area and than wish we would have looked in another. So we're contemplating renting for a year before buying.

I would see that as a positive thing. The newly constructed homes would add to the grand list for the respective town, and homes of that caliber are typically not rented out during the off-season. I'd rather see "trophy" homes that contribute a lot of tax revenue and maintain a neighborhood's stability. Transient rental communities don't foster stability, IMHO.

This probably makes sense. You might want to start looking in Stamford itself. There are a number of complexes to consider and there have been several posts on this board on them. Check craigslist.com and realtor.com for listings. Good lulck, Jay
