Hi

I will be relocating to CT shortly and will most likely have a job in Windsor. My fiance and I are looking at West Hartford but are having a hard time finding apartments online for that area. Does anyone have any suggestions as to finding an apt in that area? I currently live in NY so I would like to try and find some places beforehand to go check out. I assume that since it is more of a "city" there are probably not many "apartment communities" as they like to call them now.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi Kate,

There are plenty of apartment options here in town. Although we don't really have any apartment communities per se (like Parkchester, for instance) there are complexes that are a walk away from restaurants and stores. Farmington Avenue, one of the main east-west thoroughfares, is lined with a ton of apartments and condominum complexes that range in price and size. Defninitely try prudentialct.com or Craigslist, if that doesn't work out apartments.com will give details. And if THAT doesn't work then the Hartford Courant lists rentals every sunday. You should be able to find something within your budget.

I've found Craigslist is usually the best way to find rentals in West Hartford.

Hi Kate,

My wife and I relocated from NYC last June and are currently leasing from an owner at the Somerset condos, located on the corner of King Philip Drive and Albany Ave (Rte. 44). Very close to Bishop's Corner, one of the major shopping area with a Waldbaum's, Whole Foods, Panera Bread etc. It is one of the few new buildings in the area (built in 2007) and we love it. There are a lot of seniors around during the day, but a fair number of younger folks who are off to work. We found through a realtor, but I believe the builder has approx. 15 or so of the 70 units unsold and has been offering for rent. I can try to find out the contact info if you want to avoid a RE agent. 2br/2bath units are roughly $2100-2200 per month. Some 1br/1bath may be available. Somersetwesthartford.com

We initially looked at the Blue Back lofts, but felt the space was too small for us, but it is a great location. The other suggestions, looking on ads and craigs for rentals near the town center are good ideas.
