Hi,

I currently live in NYC but plan to buy a house in Stratford and will use it as my residence during work week (Monday to Friday) and then be in NYC on weekends. My question is, do I need to change my drivers license and vehicle registration to Connecticut?

Thanks,

Yes, as that will be your primary residence.

Default tax

Be aware that CT charges tax on your car as if it was your property in addition to your registration/title fees.

What if I do half of the week in CT and half in NY, which will be my primary residence?

I believe it's a law in CT that once you move into the state you have to change your license within 30 days. Its not enforced but it is written. I did not. I waited a year later and I just paid the usual fees.

You will also have to take an eye test.
Oh boy...just realized a New Yorker on CT roads. LOL

I think that when you live in 2 places, your primary residence is where you say it is.

I would do a cost benefit analysis of which state is cheaper. Connecticut has a personal property tax on the car, but insurance rates may be lower in Connecticut than New York. See where the cost of ownership is cheaper, and register it there.
