Hi, I have a bachelor degree in Elementary Education and an MBA. I have two years of experience teaching ESL in private language schools and at post graduate level. However, I don't have any ESL studies. What are the requirements to teach ESL in Connecticut and how difficult is it to find a job as an ESL teacher at this moment?Thank you.

You will probably want to check out the following site: How to Become a CT Teacher. Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is listed as an endorsement area for certification - you will probably need to get certified in this area at the very least. My husband also has two years of experience teaching ESL in a private school and still needs to get certified to teach (although he's doing a different area, so that does have something to do with it).

With regard to finding an ESL job, I see many ESL positions listed on local board of education/department of education sites, but I'm not sure how difficult it would be to actually get a job. In cities like New Haven, Bridgeport, and Hartford, I imagine the demand is high or will be high - the New Haven third grade class my husband volunteers in has a lot of kids who do not speak English as their first language and the district does not have enough resources to teach them individually.

I'm also interested in become CT certified in ESL. however, Fairfield University seems to be the only school with CT certification in ESL. I'm not sure how else to get certified unless I go to FU? Any advice helps. I am currently working at ad ESL school in New Haven but would like to get into public school and know I need certification for that to happen

Hi,
I have been a NY elementary school teacher for 25 years. I have my bachelors and masters in early education k-6. I would like to get a second part time job teaching ESL to adults or children. What other degrees or certification would I need to teach ESL in CT?
