Plus headphones that cheap usually have a single driver that covers all frequencies, not a separate one for bass.
A software based EQ does make all the difference. It will make crappy speakers sound much better. Case in point is the factory system in my car. FM radio typically sounds bad with CD's sounding a bit better. Playing music through my phone and using an EQ makes all the difference in the world. It's almost like having a high end system if you close your eyes, lol.

Agreed, but I was referencing OP’s comment that the “headphones no longer have bass”.
I have the Koss Porta Pros. They are on-ear, inexpensive headphones and they sound quite good. Very light. These are not high-end but I would give them a try.
