Hello, I am currently living in McMinnville TN and am living with 3 other adults. Mom, brother, and sister. We do not have enough money to continue living in this house. We will probably lose it in about a month unless something changes. We are currently renting btw.

I am a 19 year old male. I attended 4 years of highschool but sadly failed my last year so I got my GED. (Was a high level private school so couldn't afford another year since I lost social security) I have never worked before so I have no experience.

If I can get a job that pays well enough, I would move across the country. I just need a job that pays enough for an apartment. And just so everyone knows, I have no problem living in a really cheap apartment in the bad part of town. I just need a roof over my head.

Does anyone know of any available jobs in Cookeville? I have no issues working in fast food restaurants. A job's a job.

try putting a "willing to work, job wanted" ad on LSN and state your skills, good luck

While I sympathize with your difficulties at the same time I am impressed by your ambition and desire to help yourself and your family. Your determination will overcome your temporary situation, and it IS temporary. I sense that you feel somewhat overwhelmed but you can make a great future for yourself.

Don't sell yourself short; you seem to feel that having a GED is insignificant but it's not. I can tell by reading your well-composed email that you are intelligent and have a great deal going for you. You have good writing skills and along with that come good reading skills. A GED in the hands of an unmotivated person is worthless; you have something far more valuable.

True story: Several years ago the son of an acquaintance of mine was in a situation not terribly different from yours. Not having completed high school and not knowing what he wanted to do, he taught himself some very basic computer skills. Accepting different odd jobs (not in IT/computers), he got an apartment and continued to improve his IT/computer skills. He eventually got an entry'level job in the computer field, went from that to assisting other technicians and today, perhaps seven years later, he is second in command for the computer systems nationwide at a major pharmaceutical advertising company in a large city. I wouldn't have believed it possible but I saw it happen first hand.

You can do something similar; it might not seem possible now but you can. Take stock of your skills and interests. What are you good at? What do you think your strengths are? You certainly have good writing skills. Determination will overcome an awful lot. Your first job will not be your last but first get some work experience. If I were interviewing you for a company with which I was associated I could tell that I would want you on board.

Starting out may seem intimidating but the world needs determined people like you. We all had a first job (mine lasted one week!) but we go on from there. If my friend's son did it you can too!

My very best to you and your family. Your family has a wonderful son in you.
