We are from the San Antonio Area and we are taking a family vacation down to Rockport Tx, none of us have ever been, I was just wondering if anyone knows of some things to do in the area, we will be there for a week so I was hoping for more then just visiting the beach, any suggestions would be great, thanks

lets see... I haven't been there in ages, but I could probably tell u about some places I went when i was there.
FOOD:
Bud's Cafe(off of Tx-35)
Jj's Cafe and burgerworks(near same location)
Bombay Bistro(near Tx-70/Magnolia st.)
Taqueria Atotonilco(Wharf St/Tx-70)
Big John's Palapa Bar and grill(Mazatlan Dr)( key Allegro)

Places: Corpus Christy(half hour away)
You could go to rockport Beach
You could go to Fulton

that is all I know right now, all the ones I went to were in close proximity to Rockport, but there are some more down the Tx-35. Plus, corpus Christi is about a half hour drive from rockport. Well, i hope u find this helpful. Good luck.

Default not sure this is for you

I am not sure this is your families cup of tea or not, but there is a nice nudist resort down in rockport, my wife and I are a fairly young couple(mid 30's) and we enjoy that paticular lifestyle, so much that we are relocating from midland texas in the summer, just want to be by the beach in a more open minded community, but that is not for everyone, I am just throwing that out there for the people who might be interested in it, NOTE: PERVES, SICKOS AND PEDOS STAY AWAY FROM THE RESORT, THOSE KINDS OF IDIOTS ARE REALLY NOT WELCOME, AND USUALLY END UP BEING ESCORTED AWAY BY POLICE, WE DO NOT WANT THOSE FREAKS AT A RESORT.

Thats funny, you call them freaks when I can say the same about you, because I may not agree with your lifestyle. And then because of that you'll say I am closed minded. Yeah figures, it is normally the idiots who pass blanket judgments on people when trying to defend something viewed not mainstream.

But as a PAGAN DRUID, I see nothing wrong with the human form..and a private beach resort for that sorta thing is the perfect spot to let it all out. =)

Good Luck on your move.. Beware of the snapping turtles.

9 miles north of rockport is goose island state park ..... which also includes the big tree mentioned above...... haven't been in that area in at least a decade, but the kids can fish and crab there (i know we did eons ago) .... also if y'all want to do some fishing, the copano bay causeway (the old bridge, next to the currently used one) was always a favorite spot.....

You're not gonna get raped in Rockport. I don't know where the high sexual assault numbers come from. My guess is domestic violence. Stay in a decent apartment/condo or whatever and you'll be fine. Anyway, if you're a boater/sailor and have access to a boat, you'll love it.

I don't know where you are getting this? Someone pulling your leg? Some websites that allow you to compare crime data such use really old statistics, which is useless today. City-Data statistics are much more current.

If you check out the City-Data Crime statistics here //www.city-data.com/city/Rockport-Texas.html

Rockport had unusually high rape counts for that area in 2005 & 2006 (11 & 20) but every other year from 2000-2008 there have only been from 0 to 3 each year. The last two years with statistics shown, 2007 & 2008 the counts were 0 and 3.

Compare that to Corpus Christi which had 238 and 192 rapes reported for the same time period.

See a complete comparison here //www.city-data.com/forum/15731590-post8.html

We kept a sailboat in the Key Allegro marina in Rockport for 3 years, frequently staying aboard at night in the marina and walking all over Rockport & Fulton and never felt at risk. We even walked through the cemetery at night on Halloween just to try and find something scary to do. LOL

Rockport/Fulton is definitely a wonderful community, all of the people we ever met there were friendly. I would be a great place to live, especially if you have kids, even if you had to commute to Corpus Christi for work.
