We just moved to Corpus from Austin, right now we are living in a hotel trying to find a place to live. I don't know much as to good neighborhoods or schools. We do have a budget and have noticed that rent is higher here than in Austin. My husband works around Weber Rd, and SPID. Please, help me find a decent place to raise my kids!

Rent is actually higher here than in Austin? I find that hard to believe, actually. Corpus is one of the lower priced real estate areas around the state, unless you are looking at condos or homes along Ocean Dr or something. Have you considered Portland? Its about 12-14 min from the Weber/SPID, and offers alot for what you pay in rent.

Anyhow, welcome to the area! If you have any questions, I will be happy to help if I can!

Are you looking for an apartment, duplex or house? What's your budget? How many kids?

I suggest you check out Flour Bluff. Flour Bluff is very near NASCCAD and has traditionally been a Navy/Military section of town and we all know the military pays less than top dollar, thus the rentals may be a bit cheaper per sq ft. Also, Flour Bluff has some of the best rated schools in CC. Plus,,, it would still be a reasonable commute to your husband's workplace.

You can learn a lot about what areas have the most and least crime here:

//www.city-data.com/forum/corpu...s-christi.html

You can look up the detailed demographics of any City, town or zip code in Texas here:

//www.city-data.com/city/Texas.html

Information like poverty rate, income levels, housing prices, education levels and crime can tell you a lot about any area you are considering moving to.
