We are looking at relocating back to the mainland in September and I would like to know the good, bad and ugly about each. my situation is a couple in 40s She has a Job in C.C a a nurse and I am disabled but still mobile. Want to know about the commute from each for her. We are coming from Hilo Hawaii and I love the ocean but not the rain and the cost of everything from Bread to freash seafood.
Any feed back will be appreciated.

The commute will depend on where in Corpus she works. The commute from Port Aransas is about 40 miles to downtown Corpus, 20 miles from Aransas Pass, and its only 8 miles from Portland. Traffic on any of those commutes isn't bad until you get into Corpus it self. There are a lot of condo's for sale between Corpus and Port Aransas, on South Padre Island and Mustang Island. I was surprised at how many new ones had been built in the last two years when I was there in April. Note the coastal islands are more subject to damage from the occasional hurricane.

If she has a position in CC, then Port Aransas is too far a commute, well...45 minutes or so. I also looked at Aransas Pass, but decided against it because of the medical care. Someone I trust had a very bad experience there. I would suggest Portland or one of the little towns near there, Ingleside, Gregory, etc. Portland is very proud of it's real estate, but the prices are well below what you are used to there.

Portland is a nice community, very low crime rate. Aransas Pass has a much higher crime rate. Port Aransas is more a vacation community, lots of visitors but very small permanent population.

I live just south of Rockport - it takes 24 min from my house to the courthouse in CC. Aransas Pass is a corrupt place with the worst government. The north part is crackridden. South towards Ingleside is nicer. Rockport is nice but its more of a drive. If you have kids Portland or Rockport are both great districts - CC --NO

I lived in Corpus for a while in the late 90s, really loved it. Can't say I like Portland though; my mom moved us there back.in the 80s, a,spooky town really. I would pick Corpus over Portland easily.
