My wife and I will be moving to Corpus Chrisit for at least 3 years for a medical residency program and are looking for advice on where to live. We are from Portland, OR and both of us kiteboard and love the outdoors. We have been looking into the South side of Corpus or the Country Club area of Portland and are looking for some local insider information to help us decide.
Thanks,
Lee

Move to Portland TX, just across a Bridge to Corpus.. that way you can stay in Portland. =)

Besides Portland TX is a much nicer town, even though it is just a hop, skip and jump away.

Grew up in Portland...great place to live. I have seen people kiteboard at Violet Andrews Park, plus Portland is close enough to Corpus that you can take advantage of the kiteboarding opportunities in Corpus as well...Portland is closer to the Corpus bayfront than the south side of Corpus is.

Question Portland, Tx or Corpus Christi

I know I'm moving to the Corpus area because my husband took a job with LSI at CCAD what I'm trying to decide is housing. Would I find more for my money in Portland or Corpus? And what about taxes? Since they are so close to each other driving to work is not a problem.

You will find cheaper housing/taxes/etc. in Corpus. That being said, Portland has the better school system, lower crime, etc.

I graduated from Gregory-Portland High School in the 70s. Back then, Corpus was full of drugs and Portland was pretty wholesome. Hope Portland is still the same.

There are a lot more military families in Portland now...but there is nothing that I would say is "very run down."

Then again, I drive through South Dallas every so often, so my idea of "very run down" is probably different than yours.

i assume you will be at Christus Spohn Memorial...FP residency?
well anyway, right across the street from the main entrance to the hospital is an AWESOME Mexican restaurant. A MUST is the shrimp cocktail appetizer-so awesome. it's almost a meal in itself-chock full of fresh avocado...in a big goblet. TO DIE FOR. also the fajitas with steak and mushrooms and some special sauce..omg awesome. about the only thing i miss about the area.
