Just moved to Corpus, and I was wondering whether the Cinemark Dollar Cinema on SPID is safe to go to alone? The idea of sitting in a potentially empty theater by myself, if it isn't safe, doesn't really appeal.

Don't worry--it won't be empty! It will be full of loud kids and parents. It's up by the foodcourt at Sunrise Mall so it's not like the building is isolated, either.

It's safe and it's actually not as bad as you would think for a Dollar Cinema. It's pretty clean and taken care of considering the rest of that mall is barely hanging on by a thread. I hope that changes in the near future. But yes, definitely safe to go to alone.

I wonder who was the genius who thought it would be a great idea to build a mall right next to none other than.... a mall. Imbecile.

Yeah, it makes no sense. I think it was a trend back then because there's a mall right next to North Star in San Antonio. At least there used to be. I guess they thought they would produce enough draw and traffic to feed off each other. Poor planning though.

Personally, I think Sunrise should be demolished then redeveloped into just a shopping center.

I hadn't been to Sunrise Mall in years until two weekends ago. Decided last minute to take the kids to the $ movies -- as we were in the parking lot leaving some idiot decided to fire a gun.

Oh, how times have changed...

Didn't see the idiot (or idiots) who did the deed. I think it was on the lower level, but someone jumped on their cell to call the cops. Never saw it on the news or in the Caller, either so I guess it was "nothing" in terms of local news standards.

It was actually all over the news. I think it was gang related, but that's why I don't go to that mall. Except for the dollar cinema, during the day.
