According to snopes the story apparently originated in a Chinese newspaper (the Heilongjiang Morning Post) known for publishing urban-legend like tales without verification.

I hate it when they edit/update stories and then it makes it look like you didn't read it before posting. That has happened to me when I made a comment in the comment section of a newspaper. People just don't think. I don't mean people here necessarily. But when I posted a comment to that comment section people saw the updated version and kept jumping on me for my comment and I had to repeatedly say that the article had changed since the time I posted. I can only comment on what is there when I comment!
