Here's a list of entries for Saturdays race.

Preakness 138: The Contenders | 2014 Preakness

I'll assume California Chrome is the favorite. Any others you might think can beat him?

I will have a few bucks bet on #5 and #7

I doubt we will see a Triple Crown winner this year.

Interesting, I'm just curious why the 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in the Derby haven't registered yet? Commanding Curve was second and made a real strong charge from the back, and Danza was 3rd ran with the front runners the whole way.

Todd Pletcher (Danza's trainer) doesn't like that these races are so close together. In fact, many trainers don't and I suspect that if they don't have a chance for the TC, they will simply rest their horses for the Belmont. I don't blame them.

I don't know about Danza, but it makes perfect sense for Commanding Curve who I so far think is the favorite for the Belmont. With the Tipple Crown out of reach why would you race a horse in the shortest of the three races when you can rest him up for a much longer race where your horse has demonstrated an ability to not only catch but pass the Derby winner on a much longer track?

Simple. You're betting $5 to win $3.

You can, of course, bet any whole dollar amount above the minimum, but your winnings will be calculated at a 3 to 5 ratio.

Note that this is a "morning line" only--an educated guess by a handicapper as to what the odds are likely to be on California Chrome at post time. Because the track uses a parimutuel system, these odds may well change as bets are placed. Still, right now, morning line odds are a good way to assess who is likely to do well, and who is likely to do poorly.

And the count down continues. Good luck to all, and I hope California Chrome wins.

So if you win you're buying the beer? Good luck!

I live in the sin state and have never gambled except for a slot machine 20 + years ago.
