South Fla will then have available and affordable housing or not? I think if it is free- many would leave- Cubans want their own country- Cuban-Americans - not so much but would own vacation property over there- me I'd make it NO SALES to investors before the Cuban people have first choice. Just like USDA home or HUD- and many people lost their birthright homes... let them have first chance or waive to sell-- keep the vultures back or on commercial property hotels etc
This is the first problem that South Florida doesn't really have affordable housing it is very expensive.

South Florida, Miami in particular.
Comparing Mexicans to Cubans is like comparing apples to oranges.
Most older Cubans would like to go back to a democratic Cuba of their childhood.
Read up on the Muriel Boatlift.
Mexicans coming here legally or illegally is no comparison to the history of the Cubans in South Florida.
The majority of Cubans living in South Florida now are very educated, white collar citizens who identify with being Cuban first and Americans second. Even second and third generation Cubans.
I wonder how much it would cost to spend a month at a someplace like a B and B on the beach on the Cuban side of Guantanamo Bay? That might be affordable and a lot better then another February in New Hampshire.
Most Cuban-Americans now support lifting the embargo. The older generation still hates Castro so much they cannot see past it and appear to be very out of touch with their own children. The younger generation is anxious to normalize relations. As long as 15 years ago, Cuban Americans I know had business plans in place as soon as the ban was lifted. The younger Cuban-Americans were literally dancing in the streets over this--ecstatic. One woman said her god-daughter in Cuba had never seen an apple!
There was a group of older Cuban Americans on the news who were angry over "human rights violations." Ironically, I noticed they were all shouting into their made-in-China IPhones.
Cubans in general are very industrious, hard-working people--I'm sure this is a positive and good thing for Cuba and America.
Adding Havana to the Bahamas cruise itinerary would be a tremendous boon to the cruise ship industry. Many people would take that itinerary, just to go to see Cuba. Immediate shot in the arm for their economy. Cruise ship tourism doesn't bring in that much money, since people sleep on the boat, and might only buy lunch on shore, but still, they do buy lunch, and spend on transportation around the island, and buy souvenirs. And since Cuba doesn't have the infrastructure yet for tourists who stay overnight, the cruise ships are a perfect start.
I'm originally from Canada so I've been to Cuba many times... it's a fairly popular vacation destination for the rest of the world. Tons of Canadians and lots of Brits/Europeans whenever we went. The resorts and beaches were pretty, but honestly, it was mediocre at best and didn't feel very safe compared to other islands I've been to. Fun trips over all, but I probably wouldn't go back. Unless you happen to have an interest in Cuban history/culture, it's probably more of a novelty just for the fact that Americans couldn't go there.
It's amazing to read all of these comments regarding the cruise ship docks being unauthentic. Do you guys really think we don't know that? People who can afford cruises did not get that way by being dumb. I don't know anyone who actually buys anything at the docks or those stupid little shops. Every cruise has excursions that take you into the city and real areas, and that is where tourists go. You get dropped off, you walk around and explore the city on your own and then you get picked up at a meeting spot. It's not difficult to understand

From that statement alone I can tell you have never been on a cruise! Ships are full of losers on their $199 vacations! Also as an FYI, those stupid little shops would be out of business if no one bought that junk......

From this statement alone, you must think all cruise lines are like Carnival.
I fail to see how Cuba is going to be any different than Tijuana
