I suspect the man is a Christian. Christianity is offensive to the world- always has been and always will be. As a Born Again Believer, I support the man. Why would anyone possibly be offended by "have a blessed day!?
Because there are those in today's society who get offended about every little thing! Typical in today's PC Bizzaro World! Take something as harmless and meant as a well wish such as "have a blessed day" and blow it all out of proportion! The person who whined about it obviously has issues, and probably could use a hobby!
Damn, we're really going downhill as a society when we're not even allowed to be nice anymore. I'm really surprised that in a state like Georgia anyone would have had an issue with the phrase in the first place. Let me guess, the person who complained was some ******* visiting from up North.
Nobody said you couldn't be nice. What he was originally told was not to offend people by bringing his religious beliefs into their workplace. This may surprise you, but even in Georgia there are people who aren't religious, and believe it or not, some of them are even repubelicans.

Because when you say that, it makes me feel that you are asking your God to smile on me and somehow make my day better. I don't like your God. I think your believe in God is a crutch for the weak minded people who need support to get through life. I dislike everything about your God, churches, policies, leaders etc. So when you "bless me" you are pushing all of that into my face, when all I really wanted was some milk and book.
While Walmart has softened their position, I would not shop at this store again if i lived in the area. It's the same when religious zealots put little fish signs in their windows, advertisements and business cards. Its a red flag to me to stay far away. Believe what you want and I'll believe what I want. Don't push, share, or promote your beliefs on me and we will get along fabulously.

Why can he not say the more common and acceptable "have a good day" or "have a great day"...instead of "blessed".... it implies a certain religiosity about it... What does being "blessed" even mean anyway? To have god smile down upon you? Like I need to hear that from some Wal-Mart greeter.
There are many meanings to the word "blessed". One of them is "blissfully happy or contented." That should be ok with the anti-God folks, but of course any reference to something remotely religious is enough to stir up their outrage.
What's the harm in wishing someone to have a blissfully happy day? For someone of a religious nature, the greeting would have a bit of a different meaning, but wouldn't be offensive to them.
I pity the person who complained about such an innocuous greeting. They must have a miserable outlook on life.

OK, let's be clear about something. It's certainly your right to not like God or anything associated with God. However, if someone says "Have a blessed day", they aren't pushing their belief system on you. They aren't promoting anything and they sure as hell (no pun) aren't insulting you. YOU are inferring all of this. YOU are jumping to conclusions based on a simple well-wish. It's easy for people to walk around claiming to be offended by everything. But, just be real--the issue isn't created by the Wal Mart greeter. This issue exists because of you and the enormous chip on your shoulder.

Yes, some atheist, pagan or person of a religion opposed to Christianity could not stand being told "Have a blessed day" even though it was not intended to be negative. All it takes is for one person to be offended, right? Have lived down south and regardless of what others may think, this DOES come out automatically with people down there. One can't invoke any inference of God or religion (especially Christianity) in government these days and now it is getting so that it can't be invoked in private business as well. Kudos for the people that stood up for the greeter. Person that was offended, if it bothers you that much, really ruins your day (perhaps someone saying "Merry Christmas does the same thing) then maybe you should avoid that person or find another place to shop. Yes, we are truly living in the "United States of the Offended".
As much as I despise Christianity, I'm never offended when a Christian says something like this. They're not "forcing" anything on me; they're sharing something with me, expressing a kindhearted and compassionate sentiment in a way that they find deeply meaningful.
I can take it or leave it. Their saying something like this has not harmed me or diminished my life in any way, shape, or form, not even for a millisecond. I'm flattered, honored, and grateful for the gesture, even if (in and of itself) it has no meaning to me - because it means something very important to them, and that has a great deal of meaning to me.
Whomever complained about this ought to be ashamed of themselves. How mean-spirited can you get?
Exactly. I don't believe in deities either, but I think it's a very nice thing to say. People sure get there panties in a bunch over nothing nowadays. As an aside, I'm glad there is still a Walmart greeter. They are few and far between where I live.
It wouldn't offend me but I think it's inappropriate. The guy shouldn't be saying it to the customers. Some people have to be told when they are intruding their belief systems on others. He probably didn't even think about it. He can just as easily say "have a nice day," or "have a good day" if he wants to wish someone well.
I actually have customers say that to me. I just say, "Thank you and you too". I can't imagine taking the time to let them know I'm offended. Don't most religions include the word "blessed" in their religious 'language'? Personally I always say, "Have a great day."
