A 350-pound British woman claims it’s not her fault she’s morbidly obese — it’s because the government doesn’t give her enough money. 350-Pound Woman on Welfare: I’m Obese Because I Don’t Get Enough Government Money | Top Right News
Christina Briggs, 26, of Wigan, England, claims she can only eat fattening junk food — a whole lot of it — because healthier food is just too expensive for her “limited” welfare benefits, according to an interview in The Daily Mail.
My neighbor looks like this girl and i'm sure that he is recipient too, because i never saw him not inside his backyard... What do you think guys? I think that this article show to us that not only really poor people are receiving social benefits and some of them can find a job and be more healthy, but this is only problem of their laziness!
What should our government do with that?!
But hold on a second, this might fly in the UK, but don't most food stamp programs in the US require the recipient to buy high quality foods? I've never been on the program, but I thought you could'nt buy junk.
I love how the sheeple have taken stories like this and of course applied it to everyone on welfare like good sheeple are programmed to do. Meanwhile the root cause of increasing incidences of those on welfare and requiring assistance (income inequality) goes unaddressed, as attacking the victims seems to be the inexplicable answer for many. It's truly an outrage and symptomatic of an increasingly toxic society greatly in need of a wake up call.
The only way they'll get a wake up call is when something happens to them and they need help. Otherwise, they'll go on their merry ignorant way and ignore the real problems in this world.

I have not seen one post like that. Certainly there are examples of valid public assistance. i.e. The elderly, the truly disabled or handicapped, orphaned children or children taken away from irresponsible parents, victims of natural disasters. I fully support these examples.
The ire here, which you seem to want to distract from, is directed at those who take the system and abuse it for personal gain. Able bodied, working age adults, do not deserve permanent public assistance paid for by the taxpayers. Period.
I can't speak personally to receiving a supplemental food program but I don't entirely believe it is very healthy according to this article. I suppose it depends if there are children involved because there would then be more allotted for the 'family" unit.
5 things one executive learned from spending only $4 a day on food for 2 weeks
The program provides an average of $31 a week to help an individual pay for food, which breaks down to $4.40 a day.
1. Fresh produce is practically out of the question.
2. Eating this cheaply takes serious planning ahead ...

Surely you understand that many on public assistance work full time jobs too, right?
My son's friend lives in the projects. Both of his parents work full time jobs. Two full time jobs and they still qualify for assistance. How is that their fault? Perhaps its a fault of the system?
Really? I thought it was going to be a U.S. black woman with about eight kids from at least four different men who aren't around any more. That should be good for about 35 pages or so. This one won't get past 2.
Guess your prejudices are manifested here, right?
What an asinine assumption to make. I'm not surprised.
FYI: Not all black women with several kids are the ones on welfare.

Nope. You can buy any food other than meals meant to be eaten right then (restaurant food). You can buy chips, soda, ice cream, etc.
WIC provides very specific foods...milk, eggs, peanut butter, cheese, certain cereals, and I think they provide some produce also...but most people who are eligible for WIC only use it while they need baby formula, and stop after that.
But someone can get just as large eating healthy food as they can eating junk food.

In the days before public assistance, my grandparents probably made enough money to keep a roof over their heads and the heat and lights on. But, they probably had little left over for enough food to feed a family, and yet, we ate good on every visit. How? They kept a garden in the growing season to grow tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, beets, peppers, probably some stuff I've forgotten. When the season was over, they canned enough to last well into the winter. Then, my grandfather fished, he enjoyed it, but they needed and enjoyed the seafood. In the fall, he hunted small game, their freezer was always pretty well stocked with rabbit, quail, duck. Then my grandmother would buy flour (cheap) and make fresh breads and cakes. To say you can't eat well on little money? Poor excuse, it's a skill that can be learned.
How did I know this was in England before even clicking on this thread?
It makes our separation from England back in 1776 look really good. Unfortunately, we are becoming more like England every day.
