An MSNBC poll this morning confirmed that 76% of poll responders said the gyrocopter pilot who flew through restricted airspace in Washington, D. C. and landed on the Capitol lawn yesterday should NOT be punished. What do you think?
Anyone who doesn't know that flying through restricted airspace is punishable should be punished just do they know from now on. So yes punishment is appropriate. I didn't know isn't good enough. Ignorance is no excuse. And this guy is a pilot. Those guys don't have any excuses.
But you guys know what this means. It means 76% of MSNBC watchers are ignorant too

A better question is...why shouldn't he be punished?
If some nefarious person (or worse yet a terrorist) didn't already know that you can fly a small aircraft under radar to the capitol/white house virtually undetected, they most certainly do now thanks to this fool. I don't care what he was protesting, I hope they lock him up for a while.
I heard tonight that temporarily he is confined to his home and cannot fly at this time. Hope he gets some jail time. We need to make an example of him.
The gyrocopter pilot is lucky to be alive. There are various rumors about MANPAD missiles @ the White House, likely cut down Stingers. Had he flown directly @ the WH, the Secret Service (?) would have shot him down.
Yah, the restricted airspace is marked on all the maps, no flight plans can be filed to include the WH, Capitol, etc. - other than Marine 1, TMK. However well meaning, the gyro pilot knowingly violated restricted airspace. Of course he needs to be punished.
He should be given a reward. Completely exposes the total ineptitude of the over paid government worker in DC.
He will be getting free room and board. What else do you want?
