Let's keep in mind it was the USA that staged a CIA coup of the legitimate elected government and installed a puppet regime loyal to the EU & USA. At the same time they installed Joe Biden's son as head of the oil and gas company in the Ukraine. Yes the whole thing is about oil & resources. There is also heavy industry on the Eastern (Russian) side of Ukraine.
What they didn't count on was that the Russian 1/2 of the Ukraine didn't want this puppet government and that Putin would move as he did to quickly annex the Crimea and protect its naval base there. Obama and his political hacks are completely out of their league and have been out maneuvered by Putin time & time again. You don't hear much about it in the USA MSM because there is not much good (pro-Obama) that can be said about the situation.
From here on out there is only one thing that matters.
Putin is ready to spill as much blood as needed to protect their interests in the Ukraine.
The west simply isn't.
The last thing that Obama needs to do is to start a shooting war with Russia. This won't be like dropping bombs on a 3rd world country as it will result is some serious numbers of dead American soldiers, loss of aircraft and pilots. It's never going to happen.
I wouldn't be too sure of that. Yes, the memorandum isn't legally binding, but if the US fails to abide by its assurances, then it places its credibility on the line.
Ahhhhh, another "credibility on the line" issue from the hawky wing. If we don't stand up for Ukraine against Russia, we will be seen as weak. If we don't stand up for Japan or the Philippines against China, then we are seen as weak etc etc etc. It's all good except that we are BROKE!!!! How do we fight for other countries when we can't even afford to fix our roads and bridges? Will the Ukraine, Japan or the Philippines help fix our roads and bridges?

The reason the US has such a huge account deficit is because it spends $569 billion annually on arms. You're a voter, so do your bit to change that and then you'll get your bridge fixed.
The USA arranged revolution in Ukraine and overthrew the lawful government. The purpose - to put the troops to take Russia in a ring. More than 90% of inhabitants of the Crimea on a referendum supported entry into structure of Russia, everything was made under the law. When the Russian troops were disengaged from Europe which stood since the USSR, Americans too said that NATO will extend to the east won't be. But they deceived Russia.
The American strategy of war with Russia - sudden non-nuclear attack exact winged rockets to destroy the nuclear weapon of Russians and to seize then the territory. But nevertheless our nuclear weapon and means of its delivery the best in the world. One Russian R-36 rocket known in the West as "Satan", can destroy 10 cities, thermonuclear a bomb. It can't be the liquidated system of antimissile protection now.
Why would it be different for the Baltic States which incidentally also form part of the Budapest Memorandum.
The Baltic states are part of NATO, Ukraine is not. That is the key distinction. The U.S. will go to war to protect the Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, but not Ukraine.

And that is f*cking scary. I understand we have to uphold our NATO obligations, but the fact that nuclear war with Russia over Estonia is possible is just plain scary. If we could go back in time, I would say the best thing to do is not allow any former Soviet states into NATO.......

The US overthrew the lawful government of Ukraine?? How do you know?
I was born in Kiev, that's the capital of Ukraine. I have been following the crisis from the get go.
US has violated the sovereignty of Ukraine by staging a coupe. This coupe itself cost a 3 billion dollar to the tax payer, US has spent more since.
As the result of this coupe a civil war broke-out in Ukraine, Russia chose a side in that war, nothing US has not done before.
Now those that supported the coupe are marching on Poroshneko's regime (Poroshenko is a tyrant).
Similarly to it's actions in Russia. US is saying democracy democracy, placing some tyrant president and not much else. Those that rallied pro EU now feel betrayed. The country is as corrupt as ever, only the 1/3 of economy that depended on Russia is no more. The industrial sections of Ukraine have been destroyed by civil war, since those are pro-Russians.
Now, can you state that US has violated the Budapest Memorandum, wit's it's involvement in Ukraine while Russians kept Krimea safe from civil war and have sent lot's of humanitarian aid?
